Obviously down the road but I wonder if the show will adopt the character absences of the books like no Perrin bk 5 or Mat 8?

Almost certainly not. Writing a returning character out for a season risks losing cast members.
More likely they'll follow the example of THE EXPANSE or GOT and mix plotlines from different books to avoid exactly that.

They'll have to condense timelines and mix books through.

How they handle superfluous storylines will be key for the show I think.
At its core you could pare the first 9/10 books down to like 4/5 tightly written novels that were absolute page turner's.

I wonder what the pay difference is between Rosamund Pike and the rest of the cast? I've personally never seen any of the other actors in anything. This has me somewhat worried because if they are not very experienced, any poor writing will come through, whereas a veteran actor with a diverse acting background can polish some of them turds.

A lot, obviously. If they were paying her between $500K and $1M per episode, I would not be surprised (a combo of her acting and producing fees). Sophie Okonedo, as an Oscar nominee, is a reasonably big get as well, and Daniel Henney has a ton of experience in American TV and South Korean film. Álvaro Morte is quite big in Spanish-language productions (especially after MONEY HEIST on Netflix). There's a fair bit of experience in the one-off roles as well, like Michael McElhatton (GAME OF THRONES) as Tam and especially Maria Doyle Kennedy as Ila, one of the Tinkers. She's been in loads going back to THE COMMITMENTS in the early nineties but more recently OUTLANDER, ORPHAN BLACK, THE TUDORS and DOWNTON ABBEY.

Inexperienced actors aren't always a problem though. Some of the young actors in GAME OF THRONES were ten years younger than these guys and did all right.

From what we know of the episode breakdowns:

I get the impression this is one thing the team really wanted to nuke.

While they are at it, they should get rid of Granny Cadusane constantly Cougaring after Rand.

I'd forgotten about Cadsuane. I really loathed her.

I've been told by a reliable source that approx. 2/3rds of episodes 2 - 4 will be sweeping shots of barren hills and copse of trees.

Wouldn’t not be into that tbh. I’d honestly prefer it to running around frantically from inn to inn 😬

I'm hoping for a middle ground, so everybody gets a little inn and out.

Counterpoint: great character. Took no shite from anyone, had a plan, flat out said what it was and executed on it. No one. Fucked. With Cadsuane. Like Maggie Dench playing an old female Xanatos/McGonagall mashup.

Her one meeting w Sorilea (the ancient, could barely channel, yet utterly obeyed Aiel Old One) was one of my favorite scenes in the entire series.

Totally agree! Except the only Xanatos I know is from Gargoyles. But aside from that, totally agree!

This is the correct Xanatos.
She manipulated the living hell out of everyone, told them she was going to do it, and still made it happen.

On a serious note though, didn't the LotR films have a few notable scenes employing this strategy? (not the running from inn to inn thing, but sweeping shots of expansive landscape as they were traveling across country) I anticipate there will be a little bit of that in this.

That's quite a big call to do that even prior to season 1 being aired.

So let's list some possibilities that would get him booted with essentially no explanation:

Found with kiddie pr0n
Trumper
Antivaxxer
Racist tweets from when he was 6
Anti-LGBTQI etc
Terminal illness
Super serious family issues
Mental health issues
Crap actor/bad fit for the role
Did something super dumb eg car accident while drunk
Drugs
Boinked the producers daughter/son
Parents bribed someone to get him into better school/Uni
Man City/Liverpool fan

What can you guys come up with? And what is the prize for whomever gets it right? ;)

He deleted his entire Social Media presence in January.

Methinks he knew something in it that didn't age well...and someone may have screenshots.
