Had he summoned Tays against the Nah'ruk they could have marshaled enough power to, at the very least, significantly mitigate Malazan and allied casualties, right? I don't remember the particulars of the encounter though -- perhaps the magnitude of the Nah'ruks advantage was such that even Tayschrenn's presence could not make a meaningful difference (and so Quick elected not to invite Tays to his death, for naught).
After every one of these encounters where I expected Tays to be summoned, my hype only grew -- since I thought it meant those situations, no matter how perilous, Quick determined were not sufficiently so to warrant summoning him yet. It didn't occur to me that Erikson may forget about it altogether :[
