Bah, you ass.

I warned you but you had to force my hand.

What the fuck are you talking about?!

Quote

Twelve: "I'm going to attack Beta Aquilae!"

D'rek: "Oh, really? Darn, I was going to move up and influence it."

T: "Nein! It is my birthright!"

D: "Ok, well I guess I can wait for your interceptors to go past and grab a discovery..."

T: "NEIN! THOSE ARE ALSO MY BIRTHRIGHT!"

D: "Surely we can discuss th-"

T: "Actually I've decided not to attack Beta Aquilae this round."

D: "Oh, okay, I guess I can influence it for one round then." *moves*

T: "ATTACK BETA AQUILAE!!!"

There's no "I forced your hand" like some sort of wicked puppet-master blackmail. Don't give me that crap Twelve. You decided to lie just to get me to waste half an action for no good reason when you could've simply been up-front and honest about your intentions. It would've moved you up in my good books.

But not only did you decide to lie, you did it for no good reason whatsoever. I could understand lying because you would get an edge out of it, but for no reason? It's just stupid, and doesn't lead me to be able to have any confidence in your word, even when things could be mutually beneficial to both of us.

I never lied. My plan at the beginning of the round was to attack 211 with three interceptors and use my fourth to grab a discovery. But then you had to build the damn interceptor in pollux and then the above conversation happened. After which I realized if I was going to get the discoveries I had to grab them now. So I then decided (again after our conversation) that I had to block both you and Gnaw from getting them. Thinking that if I put an interceptor in the nebula next to pollux you wouldn't still go after 211. My next move was to grab the third discovery tile and have two interceptors next to pollux so I could properly assault 211 in round III. But then YOU FORCED MY HAND by moving into the nebula which told me by your actions you were still going to influence 211. I didn't want you to then be able to defend it against me in round three if I stuck with my revised plan. So now to prevent that I had to send in two interceptors into 211 which is a huge risk I didn't want to take but I felt I had to if I wanted to be a player in this game. Even with good odds to hit and initiative things could go very wrong for me and I could go into round three with one ship and no materials to replace what I've lost and you gaining 211 after all.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

To be fair to Twelve, it was only a lie once I converted materials to science and lost the potential to put a Dread with -3 shields in there that he decided to attack it.

Actually that never even occurred to me. And my change in decisions was just me being flexible to new data being presented to me. I'm trying to maximize my benefit and if it ends up screwing over someone else that is just an unfortunate consequence.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

The Forests are willing to give Oak's word not to attack the Machine's homeworld if they wish to move their third interceptor to Beta Aquilae. We are not happy that you chose to fight our ancient and steal our discovery tile. But reality is not conducive to happiness.

Leave us the discovery and win your fight against the ancient.

So you never noticed that I could have fielded a dread with 3 hulls and -3 shields? Damn, guess I should have done that. *shug*

None of which you even hinted at caring about on-thread, so how was I supposed to know you'd have some sudden hissy fit? I would have been more than happy to influence Beta Aquilae this round, do nothing to defend it next round and get two incomes and a free disc removal for almost-free. Since you said you weren't attacking it this round that seemed a perfectly natural plan. And as you have seen, I have plenty going on elsewhere that I would hardly have the resources to even try and mount a defense there next round.

All of this I spoke of quite plainly. You, on the other hand, were reticent to speak at all and certainly did not wish to reveal any intentions. The first move into the nebula was a surprise, and now the move to Aquilae was a surprise. Can you say the same of my actions? All of mine I revealed beforehand and extended an olive branch to you to discuss how we could cooperate.

You shat on that branch, said nothing, pulled surprise moves and now claim that *I* forced *your* hand? Give me a break, Twelve. Do what you must, but spare me all the posturing and pretending to be on a moral high horse above me. :veryangry:

Surprise moves? I built three interceptors, put drives on them that would allow me to move three spaces per move, stated I wanted the discoveries and hex 211. What about any of those actions and statements gave you any indication that I would be okay with you getting a free hex for a round? I did just about everything but put a "Stay off my lawn" sign up to tell you to STAY OUT!!!

But it's all good now as we clearly know each other's intentions, even though you felt there was some deception or at best miscommunication on my part. We are machines and can be rather dense sometimes. I hope you can forgive my (perceived) transgressions against you.

The whole thing started with an indication I was going to influence Aquilae, then you saying you were attacking it, then you saying you changed your mind and weren't attacking it... I don't know how that could be interpreted differently...

As for forgiving transgressions and all that hippie love stuff... remains to be seen. I've now got an interceptor fighting a pointless and sure to fail battle when it is materials and actions that could've been better spent trying to deter CF or Khell from invading me. It has soured my mood to be sure.

The Overmind sees a potential.

The Granite One can research Mining Colony and attack the ancient in 204 with a 7 hull dread without breaking diplomatic relations with the Ghosts.

Oh, I'm sure Khell has seen that. Since Twelve is in Aquilae I'm going to re-influence Vega, though, so Khell would end up breaking diplo and getting the traitor card if he does it.

Is that a turn 4 provisional? Which two colonizations will you be making prior to flipping the colony ships?

Oooooh controversy!

The Lyran people continue to rebel against the tyranny of religion and pointless shrine building. Discord among the descendants and the ancients could be a source of future aadvancement. Put a further provisional in after the upgrade to build one dread by the gc to further improve dreks day.
