I'm reading DoD and I'm about 25-30% through (so no spoilers pls)...

I read a scene in DoD where Sand tells Withal that they are leaving, there is no reason for them to stay with Tavore's army. She said Tavore didn't need him anymore so they could go...but I can't recall why they were there to begin with. I know that they picked him and Sand up in Malaz City with Nimander and crew - but did any of the books actually say why Tavore wanted him? Why did Sand/Withal go on to Letheras when Nimander and the rest left with Clip? It's only been a couple months since I've read BH and RG - it's really bothering me that I can't remember this detail. Is this a RAFO thing, or just a thread of the story I can't remember?

This just from dim memory, but I believe he dismantles Rhulad's sword at the end of RG. And doesn't Karsa bop him one and warn him never to do that again?

I think that's after he makes the sword in Midnight Tides, and it's just Withal solo in RG?

Right, went and checked up. Worry is right. Withal left in MT, and came back in RG to break the sword, probably at Mael's orders. If I am not mistaken, directly after this when DoD starts, Withal and Sandy leave Tavore. So that remark about Withal not being needed can be thought to apply to his breaking the sword. With that done, he had no further obligation....

You guys are the best - I do remember that - thanks :)

PS - I guess the question now is, how did Tavore know she would need him? I guess we are meant to assume that the Eresal (sp) told T'Amber who told Tavore?

It's a question worth asking...but you must find the answer on your own.

Interesting answer Worry - there's obviously more to Tavore than meets the eye - she always knows more than she should... plus she didn't get a card at the Fiddler deck reading... which I thought meant she was going to die... but I'm likely waaay off... OK - going to read now....
