Y'know, I actually kinda like how it looks, except for the characters.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Agreed, I wish they just stuck with a similar style to the clone wars and rebels. I guess we'll just have to see how the story is to make a final judgement although I'm not impressed with the trailer.

Yeah the animation looks like shit. Of course I said that about the first season of Rebels compared to clone wars. But still this looks even worse.
It's too cel-shaded. I remember when they said it would be "anime-inspired", but I didn't think they would take the worst part of modern anime...while leaving the rest.
EDIT: I did some more research and the company animating the show is Polygon Pictures. They also animated Ronia: The Robber's Daughter. I checked out a trailer for that, and despite being cel-shaded, it looks much better. The backgrounds are more visually interesting, and the subtleties of animation (bounciness, physics-based motion of hair and expressions, etc.) make the cel-shaded style feel more alive and deeper.
I hope the shallow stuff seen in the SW: Resistance teaser are just because it's a teaser.
Yeah, that's the typical Polygon style, a lot of their stuff looks pretty similar to that. They also have an awful habit of using low frame-rates which makes the movement of their already-pretty-stiff character models look really robotic/uncanny. Researchers describe them as a "CG factory" - their output is very consistent and they're very reliable at hitting their deadlines... but they're definitely not what most would consider among the top CG animation studios you could hire (globally, or even just in Japan). And they're *only* 3DCG, they didn't evolve from an older 2D studio, which is probably why (IMO) they can't really pull off the "anime-looking CG" very well, unlike the studios that did evolve from it.
From a business standpoint, makes a lot of sense. Polygon has a lot of western business contacts already, especially with Disney, because they got their big start doing Tron:Uprising and some episodes of The Clone Wars. For Disney Channel, it's a safe and reliable pick, and most kids that the show is targeted at aren't going to have any issue with the visual style.
All that being said, it may grow on you a bit once you get more visual effects added and/or they get into darker/murkier settings. I think Polygon's style looks its absolute worst in a bright, clear daylight setting (e.g. here's a darker, more effects-saturated thing they did). Took a while for people to get used to the style of Clone Wars, too.
Apparently, though, Polygon was also the ones who animated Lost in Oz (example trailer) which looked really good, was definitely *not* their "anime-toon" style, and that was super recent. So does that mean Disney wanted them to go back to the "anime-toon" style for Resistance?

I quite like the way the ships look... and since the show is based around the fighters, maybe that's why they went for it.
Filoni was really pleased with the blend of animation styles at the end of Rebels, with the 2d mural of Mortis - I'm guessing they just wanted a new look, something to go forward with. My boy has watched the trailer, he's totally cool with it as he's watched Ronja, so he's not going to be bothered.
The only people I can see who will be really ticked off by it are the grown ups who are already complaining about everything SW. Maybe this is intentionally aimed at the new generation, rather than trying to cater for a large group of people who are not going to be pleased no matter what.
For me, it will depend on the tone. If this plays like a kids show like the lego one, I'll probably give it a miss. If they ramp it up to Rebels/Clone Wars levels I'll be watching.

Agreed. While I hate how the characters look, the ships look AMAZING in this form...so you may be right as to why they chose this.

Well watching it at work without sound I have to say it does look better than I initially thought, still not sure though. Although like Abyss said, I definitely felt the same way before watching rebels and I really enjoyed it. I am pretty sure I'll end up watching this anyways.
Plus I can guarantee you there will 100% be some type of video game based on this, and frankly that could be sweet, we haven't had a good star wars flying game in a long time.

REBELS felt like SW to me from the very first trailer. 100%. Even in S1 it looks like the OT re-visited with new characters.

My wholly unscientific and by no means extensive sense of the then zeitgeist was that it ran largely to 'waaaah it's not Clone Wars' and 'aaaaah they're turning my precious star wars into aladinn aaaaahhh'. Then Chopper massacred a few squads of Storm Troopers and everyone was all 'I always loved you Rebels!!!!'.
Point being tho, no new Star Wars product has ever dodged the 'it's not what i think of as star wars' thing. Even CLONE WARS had a rough start, yet somehow became the justification for the prequel trilo's existance.

Give it a chance. This isn't supposed to feel Star Warsy from the outset. This is going to be like a war story (Maybe like Gallipoli or something) which starts with a team of racers, who are absorbed in their own competition and rivalry, but slowly get drafted into the new war.
I get the feel it will start light. Then progress as the First Order comes into it, developing into the SW we know better.
Just my own impression.

I'm still holding out for Chopper & Chewie's Excellent Adventure, where they just travel around the universe killing things a lot.

I think it looks amazing, apart from the characters.
I'm just not feeling the characters! They look, bland? Generic? Boring? Bad?

A voice actress from the show has already immolated her job by releasing a video of herself imitating Dr. Ford’s testimony and mocking it...

Not just any voice actress, but the one doing frigging Leia...
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Wow, I love the later tweets saying she didn't think that would offend anyone, how tone deaf can you be?

Indeed. It's a shit apology, because the original post is ALL about making fun of Dr. Ford...it's beyond tone deaf.
Anyways, I would imagine we are about to find out that lots of voice actresses can do a good Leia impression. No way she keeps her job.
