I'd like RESISTANCE to be mostly new characters like REBELS was (sounds like it mainly is), with the main saga players only showing up occasionally. But yeah, it's exciting no matter what since Filoni is in charge!

No one's talking about how it's "anime inspired"? The art style in the promo image resembles cel-shaded 3D, which is not auspicious. Filoni and crew are talented enough that I hope it will look good.

I'm thinking that it will be like VOLTRON, KORRA type stuff. American Anime, you know? We will see.

It seems like it is going to be mostly new characters with a few movie ones peppered in there. I think they know most people want to see new characters and new stories. Oscar Isaac and Gwendolin Christie are busy making movies too so I don't think they'll have lots of time to be doing a lot of episodes, I'd imagine they're going to be in just a few.

I don't think they're going to bring in any of the characters into the live action movies though, so far it's seemed pretty separate other than the few easter eggs in Rogue One. I think It'd be hard to do them justice too with different actors.
It would be crazy if Thrawn became a good guy, although I'd be really disappointed. He's too into the Imperials and their philosophy to change, for Kallus it was different because he had empathy for the people he hurt where Thrawn will do whatever is necessary to win.

I'm hopeful the new art-style will be good, maybe similar to the old clone wars show? I am looking forward to it.

I'm still holding out hope for an aged Ahsoka in IX....but that's just me, dreaming...

Ha she'd be pretty old, in her 80s, although I don't know how well Togruta age so maybe that's nothing to them?

I could swear I read somewhere that Togruta have longer lifespans than humans but I couldn't find that info on SW Wookiepedia just now...

The Wiki entry has them around a typical 90 years...but that just means that's the average, and Ahsoka could live longer. She's 30 in REBELS, so add another 30+ to that and she'd be a little older than Luke was in TFA.

She's only 30 in Rebels? Since A New Hope was set 19 years after ROTS and the clone wars was before that, that would make here 10 or less in the show. To me it seems like she's in her middle teens in the clone wars.
So add that together and she'd be around 35 at the start of Rebels, plus the time between 4,5, 6, added to the 30+ years and I'd say she'd be in her 70s at least.
Not that it's super important as they can do whatever they want (Have her age less because of the force, or jump through time or who knows!)

Don't get me wrong I'd really like to see her in the new show (or movie) but I just want them to do it well, not like an after-the-fact thing where they've already completed their journey looking for Erza or already spend 20 years on it.

Ah, you're right 35 is more like it. But yeah, she could still feasibly be around in her 70's.

They definitely do but I read somewhere that JJ has said that the next movie will follow up shortly after TLJ ended so there may not be a time-gap between movies where more Jedi are trained.
It's possible that they will have some of that in Episode IX but they have a lot to conclude on as well there may not be a lot of time for it.

I read the opposite. I read that to make the stakes even function (with the end of TLJ having a Resistance that can all fit on the Falcon) they REQUIRE a time jump.

I will say this though. If IX ends with Rey JUST then saying she will train new Jedi...I will dust my hands and be done, because it would solidify the fact that Disney didn't set out to tell a continuation but to reset the board with their own figures, and end their trilogy where ROTJ ended.

It's quite possibly JJ is giving conflicting stories to try to screw with us and keep us guessing as he tends to do. At the end of TLJ I assumed there would be a time jump to make sense storywise but who knows what the plans are now.

I would be super disappointed with that too but it is quite possible they will do that. What I would really like to see is some young jedis helping out that aren't totally flat like the prequels. It would be cool to have Ahsoka involved, or even just a mention of her name but we'll have to wait and see how/if she factors into the Resistance show first.

I agree. I think the template of the old EU was perfect for that. A bunch of Jedi characters who had wildly different personalities and tactics, or all different ages....and wrangling them into a cohesive unit was a task. There's plenty of story fodder therein. Having One Jedi and One Sith/DarkSider again feels so lacklustre to me.

For sure, I think it would be pretty cool if there were some new, teenage jedi in the mix. They could even have Kylo training some young dark-jedi/sith/whatever they are now, like the knights of ren only actually have them in the movies. Kind of what they did with Ahsoka in the clone wars and Ezra in Rebels.

Not sure if this has been talked about elsewhere but who else is excited for the renewal of The Clone Wars show?!

Star Wars: Resistance teaser

The animation and art style seem like a large step down in quality from Rebels.

Yeah the animation looks like shit. Of course I said that about the first season of Rebels compared to clone wars. But still this looks even worse.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

It's too cel-shaded. I remember when they said it would be "anime-inspired", but I didn't think they would take the worst part of modern anime...while leaving the rest.

EDIT:
I did some more research and the company animating the show is Polygon Pictures. They also animated Ronia: The Robber's Daughter. I checked out a trailer for that, and despite being cel-shaded, it looks much better. The backgrounds are more visually interesting, and the subtleties of animation (bounciness, physics-based motion of hair and expressions, etc.) make the cel-shaded style feel more alive and deeper.

I hope the shallow stuff seen in the SW: Resistance teaser are just because it's a teaser.

Ronja is good, but compared to the hand drawn Ghibli it was supposed to be replicating, it comes off second due to the clean, sterile nature of c.g animation.

I don't know yet.. although I don't generally mind this style, for me, the SW universe has such texture - dusty, gritty, rusty, chipped, grainy... that this new style omits completely.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.
