Just watched this film. I think it was a really cool, ridiculous hard sci-fi film right up until the middle where it becomes part Hollywood goofiness part made for TV mini series junk. In addition, while cool, the ending is telegraphed from the beginning and is so unsurprising it made me a little angry.

It felt like the Nolan brother wrote the first part of the film for fans of Contact or 2001 and the second half for people who flunked physics in highschool and like romcoms.

I liked it.

2001 is important for a lot of reasons. Being an enjoyable movie to watch is not one of them.

People are focusing on the love nonsense too much. It was just motivation, regardless of theories the characters had.
