Why do I recognise that one and/or the quotes on the front page in such a way that I feel like that was the wiki I used to visit? O.o

I like to say that the only stupid questions are those that you already know the answers to :)

It's encouraging in most contexts, but sadly not this one :)

It looks better, it's read-only so random dude can't erase a bunch of stuff, it contains information that has been lost in the current iteration of MOSTLY MY WORK(!) and it has Hetan and myself behind it to bring it up to speed and take care of it, just like we did the forum itself when it was needed - we didn't do it out of ambition or self-aggrandization - we did it because Anomander was ruining the place and it needed saving. Witness!

I guess this brings up the question: what is the purpose of this forum's wiki link?

I feel like the Wikia malazan wiki has overtaken both Starvald Demelain and Encyclopedia Malazica for a while now. It has far more pages (Wikia: 2360, EM: 1524, SD: 1124) and while many pages on SD or EM are just one line or a whole bunch of quotes, if you go to that same page on the Wikia wiki you will usually find at least a few written paragraphs of description.

If the purpose of the wiki link in these forums is to give someone reading the series a link to an encyclopedia with the most information and best ability to give the reader the information they desire, as well as in a good format, I think Wikia would be the best choice for the link now. If the purpose of the link is just to connect users with the forum's own homegrown wiki, then there's no reason it should be changed from EM, no matter how bad EM gets, right?

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

I'd agree wikia is probably superior now. I've been meaning to talk about getting it changed to wikia for a while, em has been largely defunct for a couple of years (and SD even longer), whilst wikia still has an active community. I'm all for mothballing em and leaving a link to wikia on the main page. I believe most em content is already on wikia anyway.

I don't think I've see this wikia version. Can someone link me?

Thanks

Hmm, looks alright but the navigation seems quite clumsy to me. Would like to see a useful sidebar but in any case, I withdraw my proposal :)

I'm very happy to see the other wiki up there and hope they all have a lot more fun with it :D

By the way Dan, I edited the sidebar on the old EM, as it is not defunct and still serves a useful purpose as a general reference whilst the other wiki is being filled out.

I am probably going to be out of work shortly and will be spending some time on adding some more references there, and we still get membership access requests.
I am happy to carry on monitoring that situation - and who knows? I might even tell Mal :p
