You don't get too much story to start off with so it's hard to comment.
From what I've read, it loses it's way a bit but if you have watched Kingsglaive you should be able to follow it easy enough.

Have nothing to say about this game except I love whatever it is they're doing here:
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Yeah it can get tough... but by that point I think it needed that, it was a bit too easy before then.

Good fun, had a few hectic battles now but no game over yet.

So has this got a map to explore with stuff in set places or are there random encounters? The random encounters bugged the hell out of me in the other FF games, they used it in Ni No Kuni too.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Pretty much a set map. Bit like Skyrim.
You can mostly see the enemies off in the distance, they tend to roam an area in packs, you can kill them and they will eventually respawn in a similar spot, once you get to chapter 2 onwards though...
So you pretty much always see the enemy and can avoid them if you want.
At night...

To add spoiler tags, not really spoilers but still... not sure where we stand with in game mechanics etc, will always spoil story elements though...

It seems that there are future updates coming that will "enhance" or change parts of the game. Or at least add more context to the story:

What's up with the music to? I was down right loving that redone song and now the only music is all the past FF themes which I just don't want to hear. Sure was hoping for more stuff like that.
You can change what album you listen to by pressing sideways on the D-pad.

Yeah, that was really enjoyable and will really help to set up the hostilities for the game. It didn't hurt that it was 85% gorgeous action scenes either. Do we know what the demon that Nif set free was? It's tickling my memory and reminding of a summons, but I can't pinpoint which one for the life of me.

It wasn't specified, just a "demon" though it looked like an Ultimate Weapon from FFVII to me.

Yeah, it's Ruby and Emerald...
First time playing FFVII, I played it with my housemate at the time, we'd spent over four hours grinding away power levelling, we'd saw the red stub of Ruby pop through the desert but hadn't inspected it, we avoided all guides so didn't know what it was...
I went to the shop and came back just as a Game Over screen had appeared... my mate had gone to investigate and died pretty much instantly... hadn't saved...
I went ape haha, I'm doing f*** all until you get us back to that level point!
He'd said that he had just flown over it and the battle activated which was bullshit, you had to get out of the airship, run up and click, I was HULK RAGE haha.
For Emerald, man that took ages to kill, I spent days working out a perfect strategy with Knights of the Round Table, it should work if we got lucky with the RNG and after about 8 attempts of that strat it finally worked, we had spent days trying to beat it.
As for FF XV...
I had a day yesterday to put some hours in:

I seem to remember Knights of the Round together with... mimic (?) was what got us through Emerald Weapon back in the day. I loved FF7

Aye, it was mimic, I forgot about that... I always remember getting to within one more KotRT double combo to kill him and he'd do that move that hit you for 9999... one of the toughest bosses I have faced in any game. The memories!
Could have it's own thread that, the hardest boss you have faced in games.

I remember one of the final battles in ff7 taking forever, and being quite tedious, becuse it mostly entailed watching KotR over and over because of that multiplier effect.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

That will definately be Emerald. I didn't think Ruby was too bad in the end once you had it figured out.
You linked Knights with X-something to cast it twice then had the others mimic it or something like that for Emerald.

Shames me to say I never beat both weapons. To hard. I do all things in FF games to before I beat them.
I wouldn't have the time to grind it out enough now to beat them.
The only other game apart from FFVII where I completed everything was FFXII, I got close in FFX but a couple of end game additional bosses in that were just ridiculous.
