I love the fact that the web cartoonist who does XKCD couldn't make it, so he got Cory frikkin Doctorow to accept the award for him.

Agree with all the wins. Glad Aidan won for A Dribble Of Ink. He very much deserves the win.
Also though I loved DAY OF THE DOCTOR, I can fully understand why THE RAINS OF CASTERMERE beat it soundly. That is going to be a watershed moment in TV "Holy shit" history for years to come, mark my words.
My ONLY issue is with Hurley's proxy-read speech for her one win in which she basically used it as a soapboax for her "Angry Rant" blog post format (which is what she does in nearly every blog post sadly) to rail against some phantom establishment of SFF that she seems bent on thinking imply that "blogs don't count"....when any author worth their salt in 2014 not only embraces blogs, but social media as well. They are well aware of the power of the masses to make things fly and stick. So her implication that blogs are ignored is more than passing strange) Her speech is an example of the attitude of "Woe is me, the genre fiction world is awful and nothing is getting better."...when in fact the opposite is very slowly becoming true. Blogs are obviously being taken notice of (most "blurbs" inside of book covers and on the back of them these days are from book review blogs) on a wide scale. It just felt like a REALLY petty thing to do when accepting an award. "Hi, thanks for this award, but I'm still so angry for some reason, so you're going to hear about it!"
I get that the Hugo's have historically ignored bloggers (till this year)...but sweet merciful crap, it's the HUGO's...we are all aware at what kind of exclusivity club it is. It's MUCH less important in the grand scheme of things than is made out to be...and I find it even more puzzling that after kind of slapping the Hugo's in the face with her speech...she goes on to gush about her win. I love this award, but it stands for an organization I just got done complaining about.
Man, I guess I just really don't like Hurley as a person.
But yeah, a pretty darn good year. I'm really excited to give Ann Leckie's series a try as it sounds bizarre, but fun.
I'm sad that SAGA was beaten though. I'm not sure I agree...but I DID love TIME. So...I dunno.

Stross won with the Lovecraftian Unicorns!!!!

YES HE DID.
Have to love the fact that he won for a short story in his 'less successful' series.

Did we win best fantasy board?
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

We should win best fantasy board.
I'm kind of bummed that I basically haven't read any of the stories nominated here. It's a tough battle with the TRP already and there are these supposedly really good ones still out there and coming in.
Durn it.
I'm also kind of happy XKCD won over Girl Genius, which I have an irrational dislike for.

I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I don't like XKCD much but I'm not gonna condemn people for it, I am however glad Ancillary Justice won as I liked it a lot.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I can't remember the actual numbers, but i believe sales for his sf stuff are generally way higher than the Laundry books, albeit better than sales for any number of lesser authors' urban fantasy books.

That might be because the hard SF crowd isn't into urban fantasy that much maybe? Maybe Stross will do a fusion with Cthulhu in space later
