So, I just read a bit about the party of K'Chain Che'malle, and the Destriant lady...can't remember her name right now, but one of the Kell Hunters was just killed....Run Thuran I think his name was. Anyways, apparently they are being hunted by someone/something. Sag Churok says that its a caste. 50...49 now, but they have weapons that are ensorcelled with some kind of new magic that I haven't heard of before. This "caste" apparently also killed the other Kell Hunter that Sag Churok had sent to slow them down. Seems like this caste killed both of them with hardly any effort. Then the destriant summons some help from the dead bridgeburners and some old Jaghuts show up and Sag' Churok sticks around to watch the battle for a lil bit. My question...Who the hell is this caste? What race are they? Am I supposed to know any of this yet? I haven't finished the book yet, but its been driving me crazy trying to understand what could slay 2 K'Chain Che'malle so easily.

Also, Sag'Churok refers to the Vengath soldiers as though they are more deadly than he, a Kell Hunter, is. I thought the Vengath were like the standard issue K'Chain Che'Malle and the Kell Hunters we like the navy seals or something.

Thanks for the info in advance.

You only know what you've been told, so if it's a mystery to you, it probably should be. When you get to the end of the book you will be able to piece it together in retrospect without difficulty.

In other words, RAFO. But rest assured it's not one of those things that stays ambiguous even after you complete it. You'll have an answer.

The question regarding the Ve'Gath and the K'ell Hunters is still open though. At least I thought the same way Duikers'Ghost did

K'ell Hunters are higher in the K'Chain Che'malle hierarchy, so more like their princes or generals, whereas the Ve'Gath are pure soldiers, bred primarily for fighting. Any information on the Che'malle prior to DoD was from external sources such as the Letherii or Gruntle or Pran Chole, representatives of other races who had no idea about the Che'malle and their organisational structure. So we cannot expect them to know the intricacies of their relationships and internal organisation.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.
