Anyone any opinions on the debuts and if they are worth picking up?
For Best Debut Novel of 2013
Mark T. Barnes The Garden of Stones 47 North
David Guymer Headtaker Black Library
Brian McClellan Promise of Blood Orbit
Antoine Rouaud The Path of Anger Gollancz
Luke Scull The Grim Company Head of Zeus
Grim company and promise of blood are both good. The path of anger is on my radar but I haven't picked it up yet. Not heard of the other two?
Also its a mystery to me how the daylight war got on a shortlist for best anything.

The best novel for 2013:
Peter V Brett The Daylight War Harper Collins UK
Mark Lawrence Emperor of Thorns Harper Collins UK
Scott Lynch The Republic of Thieves Gollancz
Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson A Memory of Light Orbit
Adrian Tchaikovsky War Masters Gate Tor UK
I read all of them except for Tchaikovsky's. I was not a huge fan of any on the list to be honest. Emperor might be better than the other options, but it is hard to say.
