Was just wondering if anyone's had the same problem: I only got about 1/2 way through DG the first time but have just started it again. The book was bought brand new from Waterstones last year and the first few pages, including the maps, are already falling out. I wonder if I'll have to tape half the pages back in by the time I've finished it :)

I feel your pain!
I have a paperback copy from Waterstones and that is nigh on unreadable at the moment.
And I believe it was the map and some of the prologue/Chapter 1 where the initial calamity first occurred. Since then a lot more has fallen out.

I was able to replaced it with a lucky find in a charity shop where I was able to get it in big paperback, much to my delight!

Anyway, tis a pain the the arse for sure!

The obvious answer is to raise a mob and storm Waterstones.

I can get you a deal on cheap pitchforks, and remember, cell phones are NOT an acceptable substitute for torches.

Beginning to look like the answer would be buying an old copy from Amazon (or anywhere else for that matter), although I prefer the look of the new covers, the older ones are obviously produced to a higher quality than the new stuff, you can't really put the blame on Waterstones I guess, they're just normally cheaper than WH Smith. To be on the safe side I'll just flick thru' the copies at Waterstones and see what falls out! lol!!

never had a single page fall out of my kindle :)

Sorry I had to :D

But yeah, I bought my kindle just for the Malazan series after I noticed that my paper copy of GOTM and most of my ASOIAF were getting tatty and some worse so. I have also made my money back after buying the whole series of Malazan, First Law (6 novels here) and also the Broken Empire books that I haven't read yet. Kindle books are almost always cheaper so theres that. Its sad not to own the books IRL on a cool shelf but its worth it for the convenience and the not getting them destroyed. And I bought all the Malazan books Hardback signed 1st Editions that look Amazing so the bookshelf thing is now moot anyways :p

I would imagine that your Memories of Ice will be even worse as its the largest book of the series :p

I've pretty much hit a point where i buy ebooks as a rule and then dead tree copies only where i can get something signed or limitted ed or otherwise 'special' (or where an ebook isn't available within a reasonable time from the dead tree street date but that's becoming pretty rare).

Paperback copy on Amazon - £6.29, Kindle Edition - £5.98! 31p cheaper and not a lot to show for it. I see where you're coming from but I prefer holding real books, and the batteries don't go flat! Maybe I'll indulge in a Kindle one day and claim it back on expenses, lol !! :D
