Haven't read the whole thread for fear of spoilers (only on the first book). I've read one other Meluch novel (War Birds) which I enjoyed, but I'm much preferring this. Gotta say, the writing style clicked with me straight away, and the whole vibe - kinda reminds me of Battlestar Galactica, can't help picturing the Swifts as Vipers at the moment. Loving the Farragut/Augustus relationship, just Augustus in general, basically. More when finished.

Good! Enjoy.

Holy crap. Just reached the end of part 2 of The Myriad. That thing that just happened, that bit chasing down the courier . . . I haven't turned the page yet to see what happens at the start of part 3 (A Rational Universe) but the way it was going was just fecking awesome.

Spoiler

Am I going to be disappointed?? Not turning that page yet. Too excited! Saving it for this evening . . .

Just finished it, and you're absolutely right - I wasn't disappointed at all. Thrilled, actually.

Everything about that final section was brilliant. In fact, I can't think of one thing about the book that I didn't like, I just connected with it completely. Right book, right time, right mood etc. Plus it pulled together aspects of so many shows/films that I like and just did it all so well.

Loved it. Straight on to Wolf Star tomorrow. Thanks again for bringing it to my attention, Mr A :)

Only one thing left to say really . . .

"Shut up, Dak."

:)

I'm assuming you guys already knew about this but me, late to the party, only just found out re book 6 from her website:

Quote

Yeah. Well. About that.

Book 6 was due two years ago.

I had a catastrophe. My husband died. I went nuts.

Sold everything. Hit the road with my wolf.

Landed in planet Mexico. Bought a little casa. Wrote a lot of crap. Threw out same.

Started over.

Cue the Hollywood style rescue by fan.Stevan swept me away to New York with my dog. (No wolf here. I made that part up.)

Goddess Empress Editor Publisher Sheila Gilbert officiated at the wedding.

YES, THERE WILL BE A BOOK SIX IN THE TOUR OF THE MERRIMACK.

I'm writing my brains out. This is going to be good.

Tally ho. Tally ho. RMM

Yeah saw it, and it was up back when I started the series early this year. Undated too so no real hint when 6 is due.

Yeah, I was looking for a date, too. Mind you, the fifth book came out in 2011(?) and she says there that the 6th was due two years ago, so maybe 2012, so it could be it had only been recently added when you first saw it.

Really enjoyed Wolf Star, too. I liked the way she used the plot twist at the end of the first book to go back a examine the war with Rome and flesh out some of the other characters. Calli's story was my favourite part of it, so I was a little disappointed that she didn't feature in the second half of the book. I found parts of her storyline quite tense, particularly when Brighty did what he did. Liked the way the book ended, with a certain character turning up again. I'll be getting back to the series in a week or so.

Halfway through The Ninth Circle now. Liking it so far, less action than the other books but hey - I'm complaining.

EDIT: And now I've finished The Ninth Circle. That was fun and I liked the shift - it was fun focusing on Glenn and Nox (btw for some reason I gave Nox the voice of Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender). Numa and Calli were fun to watch, as always - that man always knows how to get under her skin. The ending has me wanting more and there was one moment in the book when I was actually pissed off - however it was ok, Glenn was just pissed and she did what I wanted to do. Btw what is it with her and the men from that family?

I loved the foxes.

Just started Part 3 ('Heart of Darkness') of The Sagittarius Command. Did have to chuckle at the Sargasson wanting to be called John Wayne but then changing it to Steve Wayne so as not to be confused with the real thing :)

Yeah  We never did find out what happened to that last frog thing, did we?

I like the way Meluch often has those sorts of scenes turn out differently from how the 'Hollywood version' would go. That scene was all set up to be Marion Ravenwood drinking someone under the table etc. It makes the characters more likable, for me.

Yep and she does it fairly often... more or less as often as something turns out the way it 'should'.

Part of me was horrified that Kerry would go there, and part of me was thinking oh OF COURSE she would.

I can understand why a lot of readers are put off by Kerry as a character, but i'd argue put the initial reaction aside and Meluch has actually done something fairly clever there... a female character with a sexdrive in overdrive who is neither a genius nor ninja, but still tough as nails, as good as any other marine there, and not trying not to be 'girly'.

Yeah I agree - haven't read the 3rd book yet so I don't know what you are referring to specifically, but I love that she is quite a brazen "slutty" character without it completely defining her character - she has so many other angles and curves too, I'm sorry, had to go there... that make her an excellent read.

Finished the fourth book, Strength and Honor, last night. Boy, that was fun! I didn't think I was in the mood for it at the start, but once the characters got their hooks in me again, and the plot twists started coming, it dragged me back in. Really enjoyed the pacing, the way it snowballed to the finale and wrapped everything up.

Spoiler

So, by the end, it left me wanting more. I nearly jumped straight into The Ninth Circle, but I might wait a while before reading that one.

"Shut up, Dak!"

No surprise, agreed on all points.NINTH... Is more Merrimack and crew, and satisfying ... No cliffhangers ... But damn I wish she'd get on with writing more in that set.

THE MYRIAD was available at the local library, so based on the love this series is getting decided to check it out. It better be good Abyss, or I will...um...write you a strongly-worded letter. Yeah.

EDIT - huh. Only got three chapters in, had to put it down. Not feeling it.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.
