Soviet Anthem is best anthem. To this day.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I don't remember the Soviet Era glorification, it might have just been glossed over here, or I was watching the Pacers. But, that they ended it with that is hilarious. I'd imagine the Eastern Bloc nations had some fine commentary going on during lots of the opening ceremony.

That Snowboarding course is awesome. Ice dancing - can't help it but I just think of Blades of Glory.

Ha, go GB. Snowboarding medal for Jenny Jones, not bad for a country with no snow. Or mountains.

I'm really quite sad that Silje Norendal didn't do better in the Women's Slopestyle Semi's. She's got it in her, but she faltered. Next time.
And Sarka Pancochova's fall was wince-inducing. Thank GODS for her helmet, but I'll wager she was still concussed.
I'm cool with Jaime Anderson winning Gold (even tho she's American, Canadian's mortal enemies!), and I'm happy with Jenny Jones of the UK bringing Bronze...but DAMN if I don't think that Swiss Sina Candrian deserved the Gold...her 1080 was ALMOST flawless. If she'd have landed it a LITTLE better, she'd have been a shoe-in...it just turns out that Jaime's 720 was executed and landed perfection, and the judges like perfection over brass balls in this event.

Pretty much every event and it's hard to disagree.
Practice + ability = Perfection is more in keeping with the Olympic spirit than Guts = Impressive, which is more an X Games thing i think.

Since Silje is my fave I'm still rooting for her in all the women's boarding events (even tho she's Norwegian and I ought to be rooting for Canadians).
