I think the US requires only that the beer be less than 30% abv (which would turn it into liquor, basically). I'm really not sure about this, but it hasn't been an issue for anyone I know bringing stuff from Canada or vice versa. Simple google searches aren't being simple, so I can't give a definite answer on this. Perhaps someone else can.

That being said, the ubiquitous beers (the ones you'll find anywhere and everywhere) tend to be stronger on the Canadian side (think the Molsons, Labatt etc). It's not going to be an issue at the Bad Apple, which has a good amount of craft beers that'll get anyone honked but good.

I've had an 17% beer that was made 15 miles from me in New York. It definitely was strong, but not my favorite group of tastes. http://www.beeradvoc...ile/262/104709/

I bought Vengy several bottles from Nøgne Ø, which is a great Norwegian brewery. The percentage was the same in Chicago as it is here.

@ Vengy: Bad Apple looks awesome, as does the beer selection. Good to see there's veggie options, too. Also saves me from smuggli... err, sending a crate of beer .

No. No it won't.

Imports have to meet alcohol content restrictions. Doing so generally fucks with the flavors.

Only if something is imported for resale if it is a single bottle or a couple of bottles then no you just have to declare if it is extremely valuable. I brought a liter and a half of De Garre back from Brugges and I just had to declare that it was for personal use. They let me through with no fuss. Also it was as fantastic out of the bottle as it was out of the tap. Also the US has relaxed some of those restrictions as a lot of craft beer now has significant alcohol content.

I should note that I have not been able to find it in the US so far.

May I say now that I hate you all?

Thank you
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

The resale is what I meant. When I came back from being stationed in Germany in the 80s, my carry-on bag was three books and a case of Warsteiner. I was definitely over the limit at customs but my military ID card got me through.

There's stories of people bringing back carloads full of beer from Canada and getting through after answering questions. If it's a one time thing and you stick to your story about this being for personal use through all questions, you'll get through.

Plus Warsteiner isn't the greatest of beers to take a stand over.

So what time are we talking about starting the festivities on Saturday? I am currently looking at arriving late Friday or lunchtime Saturday.

I'm 30 minutes north of NYC this summer, so I'd be down too! Looking for things to occupy my time this summer :wallbash:

Then you should hop into a train, car or airplane and come to Chi-ca-go because that is going to be the meetup of all meetups!

Grimjust Bearegular, Whisperzzz, I'll get down to the city on the 15th. I may be able to take the Monday off too.

Can't come down the 14th because it's my good friend's birthday and I promised her I'd bring my minorly famous kebabs.

Sorry that I haven't posted an update for the time. I talked to bad apple and unfortunately we can not book the back room. It is first come first serve. I told them that we would be about 15 and that we would try to get there at 2pm. Is that a good time for everyone?

I think I can safely say that myself, Obdi, Starling, Bliss, DW and mystery guest can be there at 2. If people can't come until later that should be enough of us to begin a hostile takeover of the back room :)
