Yeah, I'm not sure about this. At best, it'll lose a lot of the magic the writing gives it. At worst, it'll be the OC, with magic.

I'm reading Bakker's first trilogy now and it really seems like it could be adapted into a sick TV show.

Sick being the operative word.

In terms of Abercrombie, I think that's a series built for film, tbh. It'd make a great movie series. And then it might have the draw to get the right actors in on it (Leonardo DiCaprio as Glokta, Christoph Waltz as Cosca, Peter Dinklage as Logen Ninefingers).

I would watch the shit out of an Abercrombie or a Lawrence TV series.

Also, I'm disappointed Abyss has yet to post the Dragoncow picture in this thread....it seems naked without it.

But aren't all dragoncows inherently naked?

it's everything I could have asked for
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

*bows*

As for the topic itself, I'd rather see some more deserving fantasy series adapted into TV, perhaps starting off with Malazan or Mistborn. Kvothe's the hugest Gary Stu I've met since Eragon "Shadeslayer" and/or anything to do with certain sparklepires; I couldn't even finish Wise Man's Fear due to my sheer irritation with the lead (You. Don't. Learn. Foreign. Languages. In. A. Couple. Of. Days.) and the generally poor characterization of women.

In NAME i could overlook the former, but the latter made my teeth itch. WISE sits in the lower reaches of the TRPFH, but it's not encouraging to hear it has more of the same.

You have to read WMF, Abyss. The fairy sex makes the dragoncow look well chosen and thought out. It beggars belief.

Annoyingly, it frames some of the best scenes in the series. Really, it's a more extreme book - the best bits are better, but there are some mind-blowingly stupid parts, mostly when sex is involved. It's worth reading though for the way it works together with Name to create loads and loads of discussion points and theories.

Weird thing is, I don't think Rothfuss has a problem writing women, I think he has a problem writing women Kvothe does or wants to get intimate with. I have no problem whatsoever with Devi, Fela, Auri, the friend in the hospital, Meluan... it's mostly Denna the problems come with in book one, and then Felurian and the sex ninjas in book two.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Can you at least re-assure me they aren't like the bondage leather dyke ninjas in WIZARD'S FIRST RULE...

My problem with WISE is that i really didn't enjoy NAME all that much. I liked the older Kvothe sequences, and some of the scenes that hinted at the bigger Big Bad, but that was it. Lil Kvothe really just irritated me.
There is so much hype around these books that i feel like i 'should' read them if only to remain an informed specufic reader, but on the other hand the TRPFH has so much stuff i find more tempting that i want to read before i die.

No, not really. The sexy and the ninja are kept more or less separate:

(these spoilers aren't book-breaking, but some people may want to boggle at the sillyness for themselves, so just in case)
Spoiler

Most of the book is good though, I swear...

But yeah, if you're not feeling it, there is plenty of other stuff that you should be throwing in your TRP ahead of it. Like the Thunderer duology by Felix Gilman, you've not read that, right?

Y'know, that spoiler almost makes me want to read it more, just for the laughs...

I have his HALf-MADE WORLD and RANSOM CITY in the TRP. Does the duology link to those?

Don't forget the 'oh hey there was a huge pirate adventure here but I cut it out cause that would be boring now read about me needing more money again' bit.

(he's so good at sexhaving that the fairy goddess of sex is impressed by him when he loses his virginity, NOT PERFECT NOT PERFECT AT ALL)

No, they're their own, separate duology... Also bloody good like (especially Ransom City), but I do like Thunderer a little more.

He's one of my favourite authors overall though so you can't go wrong, imo. Half-Made is probably his weakest (though still beautifully written), so if you do read that and think it's just decent or something, do carry on I urge...

Thanks Macros.

Gaahahaah I forgot about the sex ninjas and Kvothe's post-fairyland shagmeisterism. XD XD Perkele. I think it was somewhere around there I abandoned the book as a hopeless case. This Stu adventure hasn't encouraged me to pick up any of PR's other works.

One problem with the "other women", the ones the hero doesn't try to collect, is that they're mostly unmemorable. Well, there was the waif living in the university sewers and the money lender--wosshername--that possessed some character, but otherwise...eeeh. I usually recall a strong (or deliberately flawed) female character when I meet one.

This, however, is wrong. She wasn't impressed by him when he lost his virginity, he spent months or possibly years being taught by the Sex Goddess how to be good in bed.
