I do not know if there is a thread dedicated to this. What sort of applications do you use on your smart phone? Would you recommend any of these?

I currently have a Samsung S2.

I use PicsArt to edit my photographs and put them in frames or collages. I highly recommend this app, I have had to uninstall and re-install a few times but it is the best one I have used.

I play Wordfeud Free on a daily basis, I love scrabble and those related games, I usually play with the wife's family and some friends.

I play Candy Crush Saga to pass a few minutes. I apologize to the haters of this game, although I am not one of those people that send out a lot of requests or post on my news feed every five seconds.

I use Facebook app.

I play Modern War. I love this game. I access it 5-6 times a day to collect money, upgrade buildings, complete missions and attack people.

I use WhatsApp which is one of my better apps. I can send pictures and videos to family and friends, and when I am in my flat (which has no signal) I can still receive whatApp messages through internet connection.

I have 5 other apps that I have added to my phone which I have used in the past but do not use regularly. They are

  • Lazors
  • Fun Run
  • Smart Dots 2
  • Snapchat
  • Daily Mail Online

What apps do you use regularly for games or other use?

Its a notebook you can access from your laptop /pc and any smart phone.
notes are stored on your phone but when you have internet access theyre backed up and then can be accessed anywhere with a login.

Anything made by Google! Google goggles is one of the best. As for silly addictive games, Jetpack Joyride is one of my favourites... If you have a dropbox account, get the app. Also if you want to pimp your phone out, download Go Launcher EX it basically lets you change everything about how the phone runs e.g. How your home screen looks, how uou transition between pages etc. Have a play with it! Osmos HD is an amazing game but costs (was only 69p when I got it...) BBC news app - make sure you use the widget for that one too! Netflix/Lovefilm if you use either of them. The TED talks app is pretty interesting. If you like comics there are tons. I have the xkcd & Explosm apos.

Finally, just go on the Play Store & browse the top free apps. If something looks cool, get it! If you don't like it you can always get rid...

I heartily second Evernote and Google Goggles.

I have no games on mine but I do have several recommended apps:
-Power tune up by Bitdefender helps set a custom energy use profile which can stretch your battery life. (Link)
-Mobile phones are the newest frontier for Malaware, you need an anti-virus. I have AVG free, there are others that are well received. (Link)
-3G watchdog, slightly less useful these days but it's got a great UI for keeping track of your data usage and daily statistics which the built in may not have. (Link)
-Camscanner. This lets you use your phone like a scanner and creates PDFs and can even run Optical Character Recognition (OCR). (Link)
-Dolphin and Chrome browsers. Both better than the usual pre-install. Dolphin seems to have less compatibility issues than Chrome but their tabbing isn't as good so I keep both. (Dolphin) (Chrome)
-Air Droid. Lets you wirelessly control your phone from your browser as well as transfer files. It is far and away much better than Kies. (Link)
-Skype. I have a lot of data and if my friends are online I can use it like a phone and it cuts my long distance down immensely. (Link)
-Google Translate. What it says on the tin. (Link)

-Dice bag. If you're a table top RPG player this is great. Free, no ad support. It has all the types there are and you can customize a dice profile in every way. (Link)
-Goodreads if you have an account, the barcode scanner is great for making an inventory of your collection without it taking all day. (Link)
-Google Sky Map. A map of the stars and the position of the planets. (Link)
-TuneIn Radio. This app basically allows you to access all the free radio streams on the net without having to go to their page. It's free, you can get an account if you want (not necessary) and the UI is fantastic. (Link)
-The best weather app for you (since this is regional) is always a good idea to have.
-Twitter and podkicker for news. (Twitter) (Podkicker)

I second Evernote.

Shazam can be really handy. Hear a song and you don't know what it is? Open the app, hit the big button and let it listen for a sec via the microphone and it'll tell you what the song is. I don't use it all that much, and while there have been a couple of times where it didn't know the song, it's never given me the wrong one. It has lots of other features too I think, but that's the only part I use.

Also, there is a Steam app. I don't really use it to chat much, but it's nice to have for that when I want it. What it is most useful for is come the big Steam sales. You can purchase games via it, as they often have those short sales it allows you to easily check them out.

I am currently having quite a good time with a free game called Shellrazer. It does have ads, but they're pretty non-intrusive.

Check out if your bank has a decent app for online banking.

If I see somebody do that, I simply have to start 'singing' Bohemian Rhapsody. And if I do it loud enough, sometimes the app recognizes it too!

*hiss* Banking app, BAD! Way too risky, imo. Plus it's "all your eggs in one basket" syndrome - lose your communication AND possible access to your bank account in one go? Bleargh. (Same reason the idea of using my phone as an e-wallet via NFC kinda concerns me. You just KNOW people will no longer have any separate form of payment on them and then lose their phone...

But yeah, the banking app idea comes with a healthy caution from me. Only use it if you're sure it's safe/don't care, and are really good at not losing your phone/having your phone stolen. Give it another couple of years and the tech might be less vulnerable, but I still question its safety (online banking is bad enough, lol).

Instead of Evernote I use the Google Drive app, which lets you access/edit your googledocs from your phone.

I like Moon+ Reader. It works very well with the books I've loaded onto the phone.

As for timing apps, I like "HIIT Interval Timer" (Link) slightly better to use than "Stopwatch and Timer" (Link). However, the sounds that come pre-loaded with Stopwatch & Timer are much better for alerting you that the time is over. The ideal solution is for me to figure out how to load a specific alarm sound I like/make onto the phone and then use that for Interval Timer. While I'm at it, I should make a better ringtone as well.

ZDBox works great for me as a "secondary password" system and occasional task killer. ES Task Manager and File Explorer are pretty nice as well and ES Task Manager works much better to recognize actually running processes than either the native task manager or ZDBox.

I'll check out this Launcher thing. See how that goes. There are definitely some things I want to change.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.
