Hi, sorry I don't have my books with me so I will have to guess spellings and estimate a scene.
When Hood and Rake meet in the street, just before he kills him, Hood's hand is described as missing two fingers. I'm pretty sure it was here.
I wondered about the relevance of this, is it RAFO. The only other time I have come across this was in the king's champion in Letheras, can't remember his name, Tehol's brother who mistakenly drank the poison.
I remember he had two fingers chopped off, but is now alive again, so I don't think there is a connection from him to Hood. I know Hood is a jaghut not human, but it seems a significant connection, why mention Hood's lack of fingers unless it means something. Or maybe it just means Hood is a clumsy bugger with his knife.
I just remembered this finger issue and thought I'd ask for the thoughts of you nice, kind people.
Cheers.

Soz, can't edit the post on my phone. It was the scene when Hood saves the guard with the bursting heart.
'A withered hand reached out, missing 2 fingers.'
I suppose it could just mean he's ancient, can't help thinking there's more though.

He used to work in a deli.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

The Kharkanas Trilogy will probably shed light on this. Hopefully, it is more interesting then oh he got frostbite.
There's the real question. Can Jaghut get frostbite? That's the Malazan equivalent of do Ents get morning wood.

I don't think there's a direct link, but the interesting thing to me is what the similar injuries may tell us about Hood pre-ascension... TtH tells us that there was a Jaghut war on death, and Hood seems to have led it.
If that's a master swordsman's injury, than Hood may have been a hand's on guy (pun intended) back in the day.

I'm not sure how far you've read by now, and I hope this isn't a spoiler, but Hood is such a badass character later. Abyss, if that crosses the line, be my guest to erase entire post. I started a reread, and it has me returning to old stuff.
