Benevolent Kruppe cannot help but question your statement that no good has ever come from him.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

crazy mad spoilers for all books below!!!
kruppe is...
KRUPPE!
on a serious note, most suspect he's a high mage of mockra, and k'rul is his buddy. elder gods have a knack for picking out the most singular of mortals. also, many love him, many find him oily and annoying. however, to say that nothing good has ever come from him is a little harsh at best, and a glaring oversight at worst.

Kruppe is a manipulator but one who manipulates events for the greater good of Darujhistan, so in a sense he's a protector of the city, even if very few people realise it. Plus he's got friends in high places. But I agree, his mannerisms aren't to everyone's taste, though I find him for the most part a delight.

Hey, hey, no need for personal attacks. I apologize if my personal distaste of the character has hurt anyone's feelings, but calling me a "maggot" was not called for.
As far as I am in the book (Gasp! it's just the 3d one) Kruppe hasn't caused much good in my opinion. His mannerisms make, again for me personally, an annoying distraction from the plot. I always have the feeling there is more to him, and when i turn the page, well there isn't.
So, silly me, I decided to ask who is the guy, am I overlooking something. Your reactions have been priceless.
Thank you, for being so welcoming and wonderful, and not at all offensive.
And I really appreciate the 2 people who had the maturity to answer me as adults. Thank you.

A creature with an agenda, more uncommon than you would think...but there's the problem I suppose. You'll just step backwards, but leading...But I know I followed, how could I resist this? My sense of humor getting the worst of me.
