There are pros and cons each way I go. I'll probably stick with my original plan though.

Hmmm I think twelve might be running away with this one...
31 science! On round 4!
My gaming group just picked up the expansion and we had a great 3 player game, hydrans, lyra and pirates.
Hydrans had the lead for most of the game, but the lyrans victory point accumulating ability had them ending the last turn just in the lead (shell world, ancient link and the final shrine were all played netting over 14 VP over last 2 turns) I'd been playing the pirates, i never had more than 3 research income a turn and entered the last turn slightly behind but fairly heavily outgunned, but fortuitously discovered jump drive. Final turn neutron assisted raid behind enemy lines managed to remove 6 VP from lyrans with some lucky rolls. Final score was lyrans 38 with hydrans and pirates tied on 39. Very good game. Really hammered home how powerful the lyrans are when played right, 12 VP from shrines is massive.

Hey, like your example, the game isn't over until it's over. Just because I have been racking in the resources doesn't mean squat. I am still only one player. Being the early leader just means that everyone will probably gang up on me and i'll be fighting multiple fronts with no help. My material production isn't nearly enough to counter heavy losses so in a war of attrition I will end up being the bottom of the barrel.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

ha ha, every time I see Khell's response to IH I laugh. Furiously!
I have 5 pages written out Khell, my bad decisions were made because I didn't have my pad.

Well I haven't gotten my refund yet and like I said it's already spent, but sure, if you want to fly to the western side of the States for the Super Bowl this weekend then feel free to join me over at a friends house for a PAR-TAAAY. (I think that is how she called it)
Should be fun.

@ D'rek,
Curse you and your mind games. I spent way too much time trying to figure out what is the better option and I've come to the conclusion that your suggestion is probably the better choice.
