one other thing I noticed drek,
I had mentioned I wanted the fusion source for the cruiser to replace the existing one so that the ship has a total of 6 energy, not 9....much the same way my conformal drive replaced the original on my interceptor.
Didn't notice you had done it differently until now.

It doesn't make any difference CF as that slot on the cruiser was empty, you can always cover the 3 power source with your next upgrade if you choose, and if you decide that actually you want 9 power you have that flexibility.

As IH said, since you had a blank spot there's no downside to putting it in the blank spot. If you need 9 power later it saves you from doing an extra upgrade action, and if you later want just the 6-source showing you can cover the 3-source slot the same as you would have covered the blank slot.

===Chomping on gummy snacks waiting on EM===
I remembering this upgrade. He made a point to mention that he didn't want to waste the third upgrade option so wanted more power for his cruisers.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Oh nevermind. I thought he was saying that the extra power wasn't added but it looks like it's in the blank slot instead of over the other power source.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

...but doesn't it eat up one of my 3 part-placements during an upgrade action to move it? I wanted it covering the 3 specifically so I wouldn't be stuck *having* to move it later at the expense of a more important part placement, which might then force me to take 2 upgrade actions or something.
If I'm allowed to shuffle it around the ship at no cost whatsoever, then just leave it I guess.
That and I wanted to be fair to the rest and not take the "gimme", where my original statement (or at least intention) was that it should cover the 3.

Are you sure that's right? You have some money in the bank and you only spent 2 more than you genterated leaving you I think 3 money left over. Plus you only generate 6 production 8 if you colonize the material planet which I assume you are going to do.
The science amount looks fine, but I just took a quick look at your player board. If there is something wrong with the board then my calculations are probably off.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I mistakenly thought colonizing needs money too.

No, you can't move ship parts around during an upgrade (but you can remove a part and use of your tile placements to put it down elsewhere). In the case you decribe above where you need to move it to put something more important, you'd either remove it (for free - you can remove an unlimited number of ship parts at the start of your upgrade action) or you would keep it on, and it doesn't matter where on the ship it is. If you don't need 9 power, you would cover the 3-source just like you would cover the blank spot if the 6-source were in the middle. There is still no disadvantage to covering the blank spot right now. Let's do graphical examples...
In the middle is your cruiser with the fusion source over the blank spot or over the nuclear source.
Now look at the top row. Let's say you want to upgrade your ion cannon and electron computer and add a second plasma cannon. You only need 6 power for those parts (plus the nuclear drive), so you can replace the nuclear source to fit the second plasma cannon in, leaving the fusion source to power everything. From either of the starting blueprints, it only takes 3 ship part additions or one upgrade action.
Now look at the bottom row - let's say you want to really jazz up your cruisers into fast and powerful behemoths by adding a Confiold Field, Antimatter Cannon and Tachyon Drive. You need 9 power to have all of those. If you already have the nuclear and fusion sources on the ship, you can just add the 3 parts, doing it all in one upgrade action. But if you covered the nuclear source with the fusion source way back on round 3, then you need to add another source, making this take 4 ship part additions, or 2 upgrade actions...

I get your point, and thanks for the explanation.
I was unclear on what I could and couldn't do with ship parts. I thought the original drive part was reserved as a "drive slot" and the power source slot was reserved as a "power slot".
Seeing how you can cover them up as long as the basic requirement for "ships must have a drive, source and weapon" is met, I understand your argument completely. Thanks for the thorough clarification.
Just leave it where it is then, as long as that's fine with everybody. If you all would rather that it goes where I originally (naively) intended, then I'm 100% cool with that too.

Ah, I see where your objections are coming from, then. Yeah, you can put ship parts wherever. You do need to have at least one drive on every ship (except starbases may not have them), but you actually don't even need to have a source or weapons. If you only use missiles, hull and basic computers, you would only need a source if it was needed to power the drive (though all drives currently in the game need at least 1 power - but also you could have built-in sources). Obviously a ship without weapons is usually useless, but you could have a dreadnaught with no weapons but 4 interceptor bays that serves only to move interceptors around easily. Or you could take off a ship's weapons to put high-power drives on it, move it across the galaxy, and then upgrade again to downgrade the drive and put weapons back on.

Boo.
Probably the only chance I'll be early enough in the round this game to get improved hulls and they don't show back up. Okay time for plan A.1
