Yay!!!!

Thanks again to D'rek for doing a masterful job of modding. And if we ever get a mod to run another game sign me up. This was a blast to play.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Congrats twelve, for a game well played. And a big toast to D'rek for modding this thing! It is a pain, but quite fun also :lol:

Congratulations twelve and CF, you guys were deserved winners considering how much planning and discussion you went through on thread. I have to say I finished up with the points tally which I deserved also :lol: Great game guys.

But wow, I did not expect the Flare Alliance to get so close to stealing it from under your noses, taking into account the shape they were in just one round earlier. That is some masterful play too.

I don't think D'rek can be thanked enough for the effort she put into making this game possible. It really was an incredible job. I'm very grateful, particularly for all the help you gave me along the way.

Now, I will take my 53 resources, and flee this system!

And then someone should feel the calling and mod another game so that I can play

Yay!

Very fun game and good work by the flare to pull up so close to 1st place.

I must say the win wasn't anywhere near based on skill alone. We got lucky...a lot. It was very interesting to see what everyone did relative to what I thought they would do. Some good surprise moves too.

Looking forward to next game big time

I very much enjoyed that game, well played by all. I was surprised it was so close in the end, I was wondering what twelve was going to do with all those resources he had.

Looking forward to applying the lessons learned in a RL game of eclipse tomorrow.

I'd love to mod another game, but I don't think I'll have the time to even play the next one :lol:

Oh and congratulations CF and twelve!

Whoever does end up volunteering to mod the next one (not that I'm rushing anyone, i could use a little bit of down time :) ), even though I lost my files I can help you build the setup I was using for modding if you want.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

It's not difficult, but it is somewhat of a time commitment. You learn a lot about the game though, working with the mechanics.

So figure this is as good a place as any to post this, just played a game of 6 player eclipse as Lyra, and my word, but they really pack a punch if they get going.

I had really poor early draws (my first turn I didn't draw any planets) but it ended up paying off me as I'd created a border of barren territories, with wormholes oriented such that no one could reach me, without a lot of effort. I spent the whole game keeping quiet letting surrounding players fight amongst themselves, and building up the research, i lost a few border systems but my main systems were too far away and just a bit too strong for the others to risk moving against me and losing their own territory to the fairly aggressive military build-up around the galactic centre.

I quietly built up so going into the last round I had a strong missile fleet and with most of the anti-missile techs in my hands or in the other missile players hands across the board from me. Managed to use these to take 4 3 point + worlds from the neighbouring players in the final round. Missiles and the lyra ended up synergising really well, as with the reroll ability of the lyra, the one battle I 'lost' I was able to reroll and ensure I could win.

Ended up being the comfortable winner with 66(!) points, with the closest person being on 41, and I didn't even manage to build all my shrines. Playing them I felt that since no-one hit me early, as I was away from the galactic centre, it was very easy for me to get into a strong position, and as such they feel a bit like the planta in that if you don't hit them early it is very easy for them to build up a big VP lead.

Hopefully someone will step up to mod a game soon!

Heh, that was essentially how D'rek advised me to play the Lyra before we began the game - perhaps I should have heeded that a bit more :)

Lessons learned for next time.

  • Don't trust D'rek.

On a more serious note, I cannot wait to star in the next game. I hope hexes will be more kind.

I might be up for modding a game. I want to explore a different way of doing it though to make it easier for everyone to follow the action.

I'd like to keep everything in the first thread as much as possible first off. First page thread post sequence would go:
  • My post: Game updates, tech board, player boards
  • My post: Remaining hexes, remaining tech draws, etc
  • player 1 Actions
  • player 2 actions
  • player 3 actions
  • player 4 actions
  • Game rules reference posts

Discussion in the thread would go as usual, but for actual moves, each player would update his/her respective first-page post with a format similar to this:

========================
PHASE 1
Action 1 - explore SW of Beta hydrii
Action 2 - explore NW of Beta hydrii
Action 3 - research gauss shield
PHASE 1 Upkeep summary

PHASE 2
Action 1 - explore
etc etc etc.............

=========================

Now, I might need a big of help from a board admin to get the posts in the correct order at the start, but a format like that would make it much easier for me to quickly review and update the board when needed.

It would also be a weekdays-only-mostly type of game as I'm usually busy with projects & such on the weekends. I'd aim for a board update every round or every 2nd round of actions (or as much as possible)...especially when there are a lot of ship moves and board expansions (like in the explore stage). Also everyone has to be nice and not pester me if I'm a bit late with updates (I'm a busy fellow).

Dice rolls would likely just be done by hand or with a random number generator of some sort.

Do you think this could be done?

I don't see any problem in each individual player being responsible for updating a status post at the start of the thread. It'll be a good way for us to get an overview too, and reduce a little of your workload. I'd still prefer if people posted their orders regularly in the thread too, but I'm guessing you didn't mean for that to change.

Anyways, I'm signing up :)

I think each player that plays will be very patient towards the MOD. Mafia have weekends off so that is not unusual. I am a busy guy at weekends just like you CF. If you open a sign up then I would join.

@Morg,

Yes, regular moves would be posted in the thread as normal, I'd just ask everyone to take the extra step of flipping to the first page and editing their respective post

@GP
I will open an official signup thread soon. Just want to discuss with D'rek first and figure out how best to set it all up, and how to get the gamefiles from her. I'll also need to re-read how the game setup works and such. I hope by next week we could be playing a new game? Maybe later this week.

Is anyone playing currently a board admin? Drek maybe?

It would be awesome if she could just copy-paste all the reference threads from this game into a new thread along with all the little images & such. It was super helpful to be able to reference the techs, ship parts, and all that stuff right there on the first page.

That would be great, IH. Are you able to create a post for each player like I noted above?...or insert one of their posts in there afterward as a placeholder?

Maybe we can just ask everyone who signs up to post "PLACEHOLDER" in the new game thread, and just delete any intervening posts so that they're all squished together at the top.

EDIT

I am going to make a signup thread. Note this will not be the actual game thread, just a signup for whoever wants to play.

The first option might be possible, but I don't know how to do it.

The second option is definitely possible

Cool, once we have our list and I've sorted out the game files and my system for posting I'll make the new official thread.
