D'rek,I thought you were going to give us the name of the hex as well when you drew the tiles. I am curious as to the names if you don't mind.

When I'm done setting things up I will put names in, but for now too busy getting caught up. But I have been listing the hex numbers, because that's how I'm sorting the image files.

Here's the base game hexes by sector name and number if you want to look up the numbers I've been shouting out:

Castor101 Pollux 102 Beta Leonis 103 Arcturus 104 Zeta Hurculis 105 Capella 106 Aldebaran 107 Mu Cassiopeiae 108 Alpha Centauri 201 Fomalhaut 202 Chi Draconis 203 Vega 204 Mu Herculis 205 Epsilon Indi 206 Zeta Reculi 207 Iota Persei 208 Delta Eridani 209 Psi Capricorni 210 Beta Aquilae 211 Zeta Draconis 301 Gamma Serpentis 302 Eta Cephei 303 Theta Pegasi 304 Lambda Serpentis 305 Beta Centauri 306 Sigma Sagittarii 307 Kappa Scorpii 308 Phi Piscium 309 Nu Phoenicis 310 Canopus 311 Antares 312 Alpha Ursae Minoris 313 Spica 314 Epsilon Aurigae 315 Iota Carinae 316 Beta Crucis 317 Gamma Velorum 318

I've posted updated player boards for all players and an updated map in the first post. i think it'll be easier to just update them there and post here when I make updates, rather than everyone having to search back and forth through the thread for the latest update. Some boards are still missing some pieces and the game board is still missing interceptors for me, IH and Khell, but we can keep going forward for now. Khell needs to take an action and then EM, and EM hasn't chosen which cube to discard yet, either.

Lastly, I haven't posted an updated supply board yet, that'll have to wait until tomorrow.

D'rek, Thanks for modding this for us. This looks like a lot of work you are putting in for this game. I appreciate it.

Yeah thanks drek, that orientation is perfect. (And I do want an influence disc put down)

Interesting alliance proposals going round. Personally I'd prefer to wait until at least the end of the initial tile placement before forming an alliance (I'm happy to form diplomatic relations though) my reasoning being that an alliance can very easily be dragged down by one player not having enough points. So I would like to see that you have a strong defensive line up against em before commiting (as he could stomp you turn 1/2 if you have poor tile placement and their wouldn't be much I could do to save you).

That said an alliance of the three new races could be very strong.

I'm still just trying to figure out the strategy of alliances, very different from the base game. I was expecting alliances to be formed 2-3 to stop the best players, but an alliance turn 1 and a secure border seems like it could be a good strategy also.

I need to ask the question because it will influence my next move, do I have any ships currently active? Or do I need to build a ship? If I have one, i'll probably upgrade it, if I don't i'll work to buy one.

Have I screwed myself over then by opening up to D'rek? I did it to form an alliance towards her but I think she could just steam roll me now if she wishes. I was looking towards the long game and how to benefit my race but didn't take into account her initial starting strength.

You currently have an interceptor (the smallest ship). There probably isn't much point upgrading it right now as 1) you don't have any good upgrades 2) an interceptor is going to struggle to kill anything until you either have better upgrades, or a lot of interceptors and 3)the only thing you can attack is the ancient in d'reks square, which will probably defeat your interceptor handily. You want to get a crusier or a dreadnought to take out the ancient, and preferably a decent basic combat tech (like improved hulls, a plasma cannon or a computer) as well.

How does each "phase" work? Are people able to move again this phase or research etc? I ask because of a) the reaction move and b ) the examples on the PDF indicate they all completed a cycle, then went through another cycle before the phase was over.

You go through as many cycles as you want until everyone passes (which generally happens when you can't afford to do anything else) reactions happen if you have passed and other people haven't and it comes back round to you.

An important subtlety is that you can deliberatly bankrupt yourself to remove influence discs you have placed. This can often gain you an extra action.

Okay so we could in theory keep moving about until the board is filled in this first action? What is the advantage of a pass against 6 other players?

You have money in your storage, and income from money planets. Usually 3 in storage and 3 from money planets....or thereabouts depending on starting race. The number of INF discs you use (1 for each action, and 1 to claim new systems) affects how much money is subtracted at the end of your turn. Notice on your player board the negative numbers along the bottom row. The more actions you want to do in a turn, the more money you'll need to complete those actions without going bankrupt.

At the end of the round (all players have passed) you add income to stores and subtract the cost of your actions. If that number is zero or positive, you're all good. If that number is negative, I think you end up having to sacrifice claimed systems to get your money out of the red.

Yeah I have just read that in the rules to the game so maybe one more move may be viable for me this round, if not i'll look into what else I could do.

As the Hydra, I think you would want to do what D'rek calls turtling. At least in the other game she mentioned that she wanted to do that but left a back door open. Explore the surounding spaces around you so you can orient the wormholes in such a way there are as few paths to your homeworld as possible. Then focus on research to gain the science tech VPs.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I think, if I've read it right (which maybe I haven't), you have to be in diplomatic relations BEFORE you can form an alliance, so that's fine with me IH

yeah, my whole idea behind this proposal was to see how people would react and if anyone would counter-propose. As people have said, EM's Orion race are about fighting and getting to the centre. Benefits for an alliance with me for him is that he can get to the centre faster and without having to worry about his back. Yes, he could try and invade me, but I think there's greater potential for VPs for him through my Shrines. So I disagree that there's nothing in it for him, though it is risky for me.

However, I would also strongly consider Drek's offer. As EM hasn't responded with anything yet, I will move towards IH.

I know this is good but i've already laid my first hex poitning towards D'rek to open an alliance with her, yet she has just offered a counter alliance elsewhere, I can see how turtling would be good but thought I'd try and join in the game else where, I want to participate in battles even if i'm underpowered.

I wouldn't say you are underpowered. Just look at D'reks Dreads in the other Eclipse game. They are pretty bad ass. Some additional shielding and she would be pretty evenly matched with STDs missle ships. She just made a mistake to trust STD not to back stab her. Though I think STD made the mistake and didn't team up with her to attack IH as he has a commanding VP lead and doesn't look to relinquish it any time soon.

How do you want to orient it?
There will be a discovery tile in it, but no ancients. Do you want to put an influence disc down and claim the discovery tile?

Even if I ally with IH, I could still have diplomatic relations with you.

Generally, since alliances are so permanent, I think we will see a lot of diplomatic relations open up as people test the waters and then later the alliances will start, but not right away, and then some diplomatic relations between alliances will get broken as the alliances tackle each other. But a player with a strong military early on might refuse any diplomatic relations at all so they don't take the traitor card for attacking.
