Defiance

I tried to watch it yesterday, but I just gave up after 10 minutes and started playing Dishonored instead. The spade-headed girl irritated me.

It wasn't bad. I wouldn't have looked for it if I hadn't played the videogame. I'll give it a chance.

Watched the first 1/2 of the pilot. Not bad so far.
EDIT - finished the pilot. Eh, I dunno. Not horrible, but not really compelling either. I don't have a burning desire to learn more about the world or the characters. I'll give it a few more eps, but they need to step it up.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Hetan and I quite enjoyed the pilot. Firefly meets Deadwood, sorta. Not as good as either show obviously but it has potential for sure.
Interestingly, I watched the first episode of True Blood Season 3 afterwards and the male lead in Defiance has a minor role in it.
Regarding breaking bad, I'm stuck near the end of season 3 - just got boring. I'm told that season 4 is much better so I will try to soldier through it.

You are an unnatural human being.
Anyone played the game Defiance yet? A friend purchased two copies on Steam and says he'll let me play on one of his accounts if I want.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

the game looks like shit. Got a terrible review on IGN too.

I was BK, loved that. I like Defiance so far, I don't love it and I wouldn't say I am completely hooked, but it has potential.... it also feels like it has potential to turn into a sci-fi soapie... which would be a shame

Gonna give it a chance but watching the pilot i just kept thinking it is going to be a Terra Nova all over again.

The game has the potential to be really fun but it has too many bugs to enjoy it at the moment. It's not a finished product. I think they rushed it in order to be out before the show aired despite not being ready. They are fixing it constantly though. Once they get it up to scratch I imagine it'll be a lot of fun.
However, you don't get to pick your server on the Xbox which means sometimes you get put on a server with next to no one so it is impossible to complete some missions/all events.
If you buy it, buy it on PC.

And you're not complaining, you're criticizing. It's a side-effect of being better than everyone else, I get it sometimes too.

second episode was...not good imo. I hope against hope that it doesn't go downhill fast.

In fairness most sci-fi shows throw out some pretty shit eps their first season.
They either fix the problems (see FRINGE, GRIMM), or they don't (see TERRA NOVA).

Watched the 2 episodes, I'll give another one a try. If it doesn't get a lot better I think I'm going to drop it.
I know next to nothing about the aliens. Need a better info dump.

I'm not making an effort to stay awake for it anymore, that's for sure. I'm disappointed.

I'll record it and watch it the next day is what I mean. I'm up early for work so staying up til 10 is not the norm

So what do we think after episode 3?
I am enjoying it but not feeling attached yet, I hope it gets there soon.
I have to say I am really enjoying the musical choices at the end of the episodes though

I think I'm done. The mystical vision quest didn't work for me. I'm 3 episodes in and I don't even remember the character's names.

It just looks.. poor. Those beetles were cheap looking effects, and the rest of it as a whole looks like a big set with made-up extras wandering through it.
It hasn't grabbed me.
There seem to be a bunch of new shows like this around, wearing different skins but all with the same lack of quality and substance.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Haven't seen ep 3 yet but I quite enjoyed the first 2. I think there's potential. Plus I'm happy to give it a chance based on Rockne S. O'Bannon's involvement - Farscape was (and still is) one of my favourite shows.

3rd episode definitely better than 2nd, but not erxceptional in any way. With this format, you know at this point that there are going to be a lot of crappy episodes with silly, recylcled DS9 storylines. IMO anyway.

I also had a lot of hope for Defiance. I find the concept very intriguing. So far, I'm hanging in there; not overly impressed, but not ready to give up, yet, either. It hasn't grabbed me like Farscape did, so far. I thought that show was brilliant!
