By the way, just for the record, this is the sort of thing I think of as a good teaser trailer...

It is indeed wonderful....though not exactly something a marketing company would choose to do on a sequel. The sequel ups the ante, this includes the Teaser trailer.

Though everyone realizes that this is an "announcement teaser" right?....and that a longer trailer it is a part of will be running with THE HOBBIT next week right? So this is only the first nugget and we get more soon.

What does JJ Abrams have to do with Dollhouse?

Ha, good point. I think Abyss just lumped Whedon in with JJ for some reason.

The Dark Knight did it...

I do appreciate that not everything can though and that it probably wouldn't work here - either the villain is Khan and they don't want to give it away or it's not and there's probably no other new thing that could carry the draw on its own like the Joker or Enterprise can.

But it doesn't alleviate my thinking that this particular trailer is generic.

The next trailer will be interesting, indeed. Lot of competition coming, trailers for Superman and hopefully Pacific Rim due soon too...

Yeah MAN OF STEEL is with HOBBIT as well, and PACIFIC RIM is meant to debut next week and I wouldn't be surprised if THAT one ran in front of HOBBIT as well...which would mean I'll be creaming my jeans for like ten minutes before the HOBBIT starts....

My opinion? Cumberbatch is Gary Mitchell. The blonde chick looks too much like Elizabeth Mitchell to be some one else. I imagine the first part of the movie will introduce Gary Mitchell getting buried and the rest of the movie will be him escaping and such. So it will be very Wrath-of Kahnish, but without Kahn and with an immortal psychopath.

I have no idea who any of those bad guys are. He'll I didn't even know a new Trek film was coming out. Honestly for me I doubt I ll go watch this one unless my friends insist. I was just to bummed out with the Alt Uni from 1st. I had no idea so many of y'all liked this last one so much.

How the fuck can you be bummed enough about them making an alternative 'verse to be put of the new ones, but not know who Khan is?

All I know is that it has star trek in the title. That is more than enough to get me in the car and on my way to the theatre.

To wait in line

for first tickets

until next May.

Longer trailer dropped for Austin fans, more info on that "hands" scene shows us it was just a nod to Khan.

Devin Faraci: Full STAR TREK trailer indicates hands against glass scene is actually Spock and Cumberbatch. If he's Sybock… Well, kudos.

That said, Cumberbatch does NOT have Vulcan ears. Hands against glass scene seems to be Cumby in the brig.

Trailer opens with Pike VO, telling Kirk he has courage but no humility, and someday that will get him and his crew killed.

Oh yeah: there's space stuff in the full TREK trailer. Space combat. Guy in a space suit zooming around.

Hoffman:Cumberbatch was definitely shown in some sort of brig

Chekov appears in a red tunic (instead of his regular gold tunic)

Someone wears a EVA space suit with similar design to the one used in Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Oficially announced by Paramount.

Alice Eve's character is definitely Carol Marcus..

..and Benedict Cumberbatch's character is John Harrison...who was on the classic show...A technician first-class on the U.S.S. Enterprise in 2267. Harrison nearly suffocated on the bridge when Khan cut the air supply. Captain Kirk’s log reflected a commendation for him.

Hmmm....

I know what none of that means. Is it Khan or is it not Khan?

To be honest, while I thought that the teaser looked bloody awesome I kinda hope it's not Khan. He seems, to me at least, a bit overexposed, like he's the wolverine or batman of star trek.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

It sounds more like this guy and his anger with Star Fleet are a direct result of Khan in some way...so the story won't tread the same paths as WoK, but still addresses how much of a villain he was...

and since Peter Weller is in the film in an as yet un-named role who is said to be "an older mentor to Cumberbatch's character"...my guess is that Weller will be Khan but we might not see much of him?

I dunno.

My guess is that Cumberbatch is one of Khans fellow "superhumans" either out for revenge for the eugenics war or for Khan himself.
Probably leading up to Khan himself making an appearance in the next film...cant have reboot without khan after all.

Cumberbatch cant be khan...khan be an indian :)
...┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐...

Why dont they make the whole plane out of that black box stuff?

Originally played by a Mexican. They kind of play fast and loose with the races on Star Trek.

We had a MexiKhan, why not a RoboKhan?
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I looked up Weller and yeah, he's almost certain to be Khan. Hopefully they build a truly awesome story around him for the next movie.
