The Luke part is a bit from the fanmade mockup released a couple years back, hadn't seen a lot of the non-shopped or first-trilogy footage though.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

So.. what are your box office predictions for this?

I know there are a lot of people who won't give a crap, but yesterday I spoke to someone who has never seen SW, never been bothered to, but just saw the new trailer in the Imax. He's sold - he said it looked so incredible that he's off to watch the original trilogy.

Films usually do really well if they both appeal to a wide audience, and get watched multiple times. I'd say that with the SW generation, plus their kids, plus a lot of people watching it more than once, it's going to rake it in.

Unless of course it turns out to be pants.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Is your friend watching the "upgraded" versions though?!
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I told him about those.. and advised him to find the originals. I've got both versions in the same dvd box. My boy occasionally sticks the 'special' editions in as they look the same - and those extra bits really are awful. I can't think of a single improvement.

(The appearance of a 'young' ghost Anakin just makes no sense at all).

Two trainees, both girls of around 20, were talking SW at work. One is being introduced to it, the other has seen them all - and both, so far, prefer the prequels. It kind of makes sense if you take away the nostalgia factor, as I think Apt has pointed out somewhere else.

I think this will set a new Box Office #1 record globally. I think it will be a hallmark against which movies for the next decade or so are measured for performance.

Which means i'm waiting 2 FUCKING WEEKS longer to watch this.

I'm gonna have to go dark on the internet for those 2 weeks.

You should do what my buddy does. He'll see a movie with us later than it opened and wait till the credits roll and turn to us and say "You know what the best thing about that movie was? That I saw it two weeks ago." and then he maniacally laughs. Any anger we have at him for seeing it before us dissipates in the face of such an amusing comment.

It'll be huge. The new #1 film of all time? Quite possibly, but $2.7 billion is a massive hill to climb. Avatar also had a huge amount of new technology behind it that got people excited. But Star Wars has the name recognition, it's a got a lot of goodwill, it's got a big following in overseas territories (most importantly China) which didn't factor into the equation anywhere near as much even six years ago and the trailers have all been awesome. It's got the best shot of any film released since 2009. And if flaming Fast and Furious films and a so-so Jurassic Park sequel can get into the $1.5 billion range, this movie has got to be able to do a lot better than that.

That said, I remember everyone saying how The Phantom Menace would be the biggest movie of all time in 1999 and it barely got to half of the world record at the time. And that wasn't down to negativity, the film reviewed very well on release and most of the severe kicking only started a few months after it came out. The general, non-fan audience wasn't sold. This time around, they seem to be up for it.

Firstly, TITANIC was an anomaly. That global box office was a huge, huge surprise, and wasn't beaten worldwide until 2009. That's 12 years later. Other than that, THE PHANTOM MENACE and JURASSIC PARK were the biggest grossers of the 90's, and the first two films to break the 1billion dollar mark. Saying that it "barely got half of the world" is misleading when you consider the studio math involved.

The adjusted gross for TPM is only 400mil shy of TITANIC...and then remember that TITANIC cost 200mil to make, whereas TPM only cost just over half that. There lots of room for the studio math here, but that puts TPM within about 250-300million of TITANIC once all all that math settles and depnding on marketing push VS Box Office, but it's REALLY not barely half at all.

This focus on money is obscene, when FOR A FACT watching either Titanic or The Phantom Menace permanently damages your DNA (though in different ways) and I contend that the World Health Organization has done us all a disservice by not doing more to combat this. I feel worst of all for those who saw both in the theater.

It's funny, I always want to chat with my wife after a movie as we walk out, but I have a loudish voice, so she always shushes me till we are well out of range of everyone...just in case I say something. I usually wouldn't talk a spoiler out loud, but it's nice she keeps me in check.
