I only came in here to say that Olar Ethil, by her behavior in this book, has eclipsed Errastas as my most hated character (though Errastas' behavior here is little different from what it will be in 100,000 years).

Also: Where is it firmly established that the kid in the oven is Drac's granddaughter? I thought it just as likely to be Grizzin Farl's spawn.

Kid in the oven? If you're talking about Malice, then it's established that she's Envy and Spite's sister, and Arathan's half sister, and thus Draconus's daughter, in this very book. I'm tempted to say it's mentioned many times, but the first time is during her first appearance when she's talking to Arathan (his POV) and says "It's me. Malice. Your sister, Malice."

No, not Malice, though I can see how my use of the phrase "kid in the oven" could be confused with Malice, since that was indeed her demise in this book. I meant the pregnant bordersword whose kid may or not be Arathan's. People in this topic seem certain the kid is Arathan's, but from what I read it could just as well be Grizzin Farl's.

LOL oh. I believe the phrase is "bun in the oven", but please tell me you use the phrase "kid in the oven" often IRL, as I'd like to envision years and years of horrified looks aimed your way.

Otherwise, yah, potentially good point. I suppose it depends on how much Draconus learned when he did the corpse-magic pregnancy test.

Yeah, my pregnancy analogy was a bit awry. Anyway, I do expect the kid to be Arathan's, but I don't think we can ever be certain. Curious to find out who in the MBotF she turns out to be. And being in the care of her Bordersword mother, I don't expect her to wind up Andii, Liossan or Edur.

I thought Olar Ethil was aspected to Telas but maybe it is tellan. isn't burn the goddess of the mass and Olar Ethil just hijacked them.

It's been a while since I read the books but from what I recall Olar Ehil was an Azathanai, and potentially the creator of the dog-runners/Imass/whatever, and was their goddess of fertility/fire/stuff first before Burn. Burn was a dog-runner bonecaster/witch/person who essentially became a goddess since they all worshiped her and then decided to take a nap.
