(Brys Beddict -- Yedan Derryg) Democratic Hierarchy of the Gods Pairing 6: The Forgotten Names vs The Forgotten Shore

Pairing number 6:
Brys Beddict, considered possibly the greatest human swordsman by some - also has a list a forgotten names, his own type of magic - came back from the dead def changed, has more power than a normal mortal either via extra defense and/or offensive magic- can call upon the list of forgotten names for unknown results.
Yedan Derryg, beholder of a true Hust sword, defender of the First Shore, as shake, also has his own magic, one could say - single handedly killed him some Hounds of Light, and Dragon Soletaken - don't let his smaller part if the series cause his underestimation - he's a bad ass, but badder ass than Brys?
We shall see.
What do you fine gentleman and lovely ladies think?
Who comes out the victor?

Eh?
Graablick, you may just be fooling around, but in case you're serious, I definitely wasn't trying to imply that by picking either Yedan or Brys, that you're saying you think either of them is 'better' than Dassem.
This poll is only comparing and considering Yedan and Brys to each other, and to no one else.
It is possible that eventually, the winner of this 'Pairing' could go on to face Dassem in a new, future 'pairing.'
But for now, we're only debating whether or not Yedan or Brys should rank higher on our "personal-to-our-forum" - grand cosmic scale.
I'm fairly sure the general consensus is Dassem ranking lower only to the likes of such power houses as Rake and very few others.

With the Hust Sword Yedan has a chance, but without it, Brys all the way.
If Letherii steel can survive an impact with a Hust, then Brys. If it can't Yedan (but because of his sword, not his own ability.)

If a hust sword can chop through a dragon's scales it would surely ruin anything letherii made.
Ignoring the sword and considering skill I'd still go with Yedan. I maintain that Brys has proven himself as being a sword fighter of supreme finesse and skill but he hasn't been proven as being a superior fighter on a battle field. What he did to Rhulad was impressive but Rhulad was defenceless against Brys' surgical strikes. How would Brys fare against a person of equal offensive as defensive tenacity? Yedan fought for days on end, against anything and anyone that the Liosan could throw at him, and he aaalmost made it. Brys is great but Yedan has the heart in my opinion.

Yedan is pure slaughter. I like Brys a lot and think he could take out nearly anyone in the same class, but Yedan is definitely the kind of guy who would take a blow to deliver a better one. He's got all that skill plus a little gleam of madness.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Both were Letherii (of a sort). Brys was The King's Champion. Good enough for me.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Letherii Steel is special, though. It's said to be unbreakable, and things made of it were the only things to survive battlefields blasted with Chaos warren (apparently completely intact)

Unbreakable relative to what it's been tested against. Somehow I doubt that includes Hust blades, much as I doubt it includes, say, Dragnipur, or Vengeance, or Icarium's sword, possibly even...did Karsa ever draw Bairoth Delum against Letherii steel? Basically, while it's no guarantee either way, we basically can't say for certain that Letherii steel would hold up against a Hust blade, but we can infer from the available info that it would be a good test of the claim that they're "unbreakable" (in the same vein as answering the question "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object", it is simple: one of your definitions changes) but for the purposes of the duel you've gotta make your own call on that or leave it out as a factor.
I'm going to say, for myself, that the sword(s) a man uses (as the poll puts it, "at his peak", also with the Hust sword) are relevant to the duel (else we couldn't really gauge something like Rake vs Dassem, could we?) if they're a feature of the character in some way. And as Apt points out, Hust > Dragon scales, therefore Hust > Letherii steel (probably). In terms of skill I'd give the edge to Brys, but...Yedan is far more badass! (Been a while since I re-read Reaper's Gale, mind.)

Haven't read forge of darkness, so I may be wrong, but I thought that Hust blades were specifically designed as dragon killers and so are especially effective against them. Chaos warren is pretty destructive stuff, but it couldn't hurt them. So basically, yeah, I don't know.

Just for the record, I'm highly upset at the results of this Pairing. Yedan Derryg was too great a badass to have lost this one, even to such a magnificent warrior as Brys Beddict.

You don't understand the power of the Beddicts. I must serve my masters.
