Subterranean Press just announced Memories of Ice. Same illustrator as with Deadhouse Gates.

Quote

I haven't checked to be certain, but at 936 pages, Steven Erikson's Memories of Ice may just be the second longest SubPress book. It's fully designed and currently being proofread. J. K. Drummond is once again helming the illustrations.

Collectors note: The limited edition of Memories of Ice will not be available via large online booksellers or our wholesale accounts. Only those customers who own a limited or lettered edition of Deadhouse Gates are eligible to order the like edition of Memories of Ice. No need to mention your Deadhouse Gates letter or number for matching purposes. We kept track of those.

Subterranean Press is proud to announce the second volume of The Malazan Book of the Fallen. One of our favorite newer artists, J. K. Drummond, has taken over the illustrating of this epic series.

The numbered edition will:

  • Be printed on 80# Finch paper, guaranteeing a lifetime of enjoyment
  • Be illustrated with a number of full color interior illustrations
The lettered edition will include everything in the numbered, plus the following features:

  • A completely different dust jacket
  • A gatefold pull-out illustration
  • A custom traycase to protect your book
Limited: 500 numbered copies, hardcover, signed by author: $150

Lettered: 52 copies, deluxe bound, signed by author, housed in a custom traycase: $325

Please note: Only those who own Deadhouse Gates may order the same edition of Memories of Ice at this time.

That's kind of disappointing. I was hoping that they'd get a different artist for each book since they couldn't keep Michael Komarck for the entire series.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

Personally, I think the centre-fold illustration on the lettered Deadhouse gates was the best of the whole lot, so I can't wait to see how they do K'Chain Che'Malle  Very excited about this.

Not at the moment, but I imagine you'll have an option to preorder at a later date once they've given DG owners time to decide if they want to order or not.

Edit: Just got an email stating that DG owners will have until the end of September for priority preordering.

I just ordered a copy of the limited edition MOI and was wondering if anybody knew when it would be sent, the site says early 2013. Just wondering if anybody knows anything more, I couldn't afford the GOTM or DG when they came out and havn't used Sub Press before.

If it's in typical SubPress fashion, I'd say June 2014. I think Deadhouse Gates was 18 months late?

The cover artwork and an interior shot is on the book's page. I love this one:

Armor, I assume. Since, you know, she tends to be involved in war and stuff.

Looks like armor. I'm liking the art in this one so far though. That said, I'm not a big fan of the Pannion Seer cover art, I like the piece but don't think it should be the cover.

Really liking the artwork so far. The scale of the K'chain is really impressive next to those Imass.

Oh. My. Fucking. Fuck.
That's AWESOME.

I love the sense of motion from the K'ell and the materializing Imass.

Also nice. Korlat looks appropriately alien.
Kind of wish there was something more to the condors to emphasize the possession as opposed to looking like mere scavengers over a battlefield.

Did I miss anything on the release date? They said early 2013, and here it is summer. I want to see that crazy KChain CheMalle. I wish they would offer movie poster sized prints for the drawings. That would be amazing.

Dated June 12th:
The ultra-talented J. K. Drummond has just turned in the gatefold illlustration for Steven Erikson's Memories of Ice, the third volume in his groundbreaking Malazan Book of the Fallen. Over the course of the next week, we'll be reviewing the final files, and then sending Memories on to our printer. At 936 pages, it's at the absolute edge of the envelope of how thick a book we can print with the premium paper we've selected.

TBP was only 898, wonder what else they've added beyond the illustrations to make it up to 936?

This may be an issue when Reapers Gale gets its turn, think that was the longest.
