I don't see how it's so childhood-shattering. Duck tales were awesome, and the fact that they had no paernts, only a rich uncle, made them all the cooler.

Then again, Disney was all about single parents--Goofy and my humble self are two other examples. You've also had the father-son relationship in TaleSpin, though there was the company owner there who (somewhat) filled the mother role....
