If the only option is trying to stay alive in a world where the majority of the surviving humans are Mormon or from Phoenix, I'm going to spend my energy not on a bug-out bag but on making sure I'm at ground zero of whatever the apocolyptic event is. I want to go first!!!

However, assuming you guys are going for long term survival and let's say after a few years of murder and cannibalism the real trick is simply staying alive for decades without the luxury of modern medicine and sanitation; I'd stockpile TCP, iodine and dental hygiene products. You don't want to survive the early years and then die of a toothache or nick from your own knife now do you?

Don't worry Mez, if I ever win the lottery, I'm going to make a shelter for hedonists. A big pink bunker with musical instruments in a sound proof room, plump beds, warm water, comfy baths and a cellar full of aging wines, and other of barrels of fun stuff that improve with age. I'm sure the peasants survivors will want to work for my food in return for an hour or two of comfiness and alcohol.

I have to jump in on this one. Usually just lurking. I have a bug out bag, an Alice pack, stuffed full of survival gear and I am by some standards considered an old woman. I live in high risk earthquake and tsunami country in Northern California where we have those cute signs everywhere showing a little man running up the hill to remind people where they are supposed to go when the big one hits and the big tsunami follows. Before living here, I lived in the midwest US where I was surrounded by nuclear power plants that seemed to have regular leaks of alleged small amounts of radiation that made me think I might need to get out of dodge sometime in the future. After what happened to the aging nuclear plants in Fukushima if I lived anywhere near one of those 40-50 year old nuclear plants I would definitely have an escape route planned and a bug out bag.

These days we seem to be having a major uptick in earthquakes, volcanoes, killer sun rays, and unusual weather all around the globe like the floods in the past couple of days in Russia that displaced millions of people and has killed 150 or the extreme heat wave and thunderstorms in the NE US that have knocked out electricity to millions of people. I have read that 10% of Americans are what you could call preppers in that they prepare for short term emergencies and I am one of these people. I have been through a couple of past emergencies where I was not prepped and getting enough water to drink was a big issue or having no heat in sub zero temperatures was a big issue. It just makes sense to have the basics on hand and easy to grab to go if needed. Laugh if you want at the Mormons (I am not one) but they will likely be alive long after a major disaster say like a nuclear meltdown or a electro magnectic storm that knocks out electricity for a very long time. I agree with whoever it was that said that having preps is just the first step. You need to know how to use them. How to purify your water, how to start a fire with twigs, etc. There are some excellent prepper web sites and yes some of them are leaning toward The End Of The World As We Know It (TEOTWAWKI), but regardless of whether you are preparing for a short term or long term emergency, these sites are a great source of information. If anyone is interested in some American sites I can provide them.

From all the apocalyptic literature I've read I can deduce that since I live in England and not the US, which almost always has every single survivor POV who is usually a guy (sucks to be you, ladies!) and who often laments the destruction of the rest of the world including the UK, the US is almost certainly the only place where people have a hope in hell of surviving. In the event of the end of the world we'd be screwed first anyway so why bother preparing?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Survivalists have come to a agreement..European/Uk/Russia will be totally bunk.

Them women on the on other hand from those countries will be saved first and foremost.. The U.S males will be repopulating the earth..That is why I am a survivalist to the max. If you make it the ratio will be 1 male: 15 women < mostly from California, European, and Russian, etc, etc> . I figure that should help humanity out. Us males figuring out who to solve former humanities problems successfully.

Plus we have the constitution.

Do me one small favor, a future dying wish, if you will. If any of you do happen to survive THE EVENT, please refrain from repopulating the world. Do everything else you want, sure, but take a pass on that one.

Wowser! Can you give a brief rundown as to how survivalists came to this conclusion? I will keep my fingers crossed that THE EVENT happens once I am passed child bearing age. I want to be out of personal contention for a red neck repopulating. Then again, more ammo for my rationale that it's best to be at ground zero.

*Note to self: Add chemical castration drugs to the list of TCP, iodine and dental floss.*

Have the survivalists considered the scenario that the women will use weight of numbers to band together and enslave the male race? Or will we be too busy being fertilised?

The average redneck survivalist hasn't considered how he and his US survivalists are going to make it to Europe, Russia and the UK to impregnate all those ladies to begin with, or how they're going to survive once here. He also didn't consider the fact that in a lot of central european countries, there are nuclear proof shelters in every big city (aka, the metro network), and how people, including city people, survived in Stalingrad, Leningrad, the Balkan Wars et cetera while the bombs were still coming down.

He also forgets that Europe is the continent that does perhaps the most with sustainable energies like wind- and solar power, precisely because we're all a bunch leftist hippies who are all about tertiary concerns like luxury, gas emission and saving the rainforests.

Anyone else worried that Nico is plotting the end of the world just so that he has a better chance of getting laid?

A lot of people took 'not even if you were the last man on Earth' as a challenge.

Considering the resent changes in the forum staff I assume that the world is ending. I am heading for the hills as we speak.

I expect to freeze fairly quickly when the world ends. I also expect to thaw out after the ice age ends.
