Hi, name's Enko. I've been searching for a good Malazan forum for a while. I hope this one is active.
I'm new to the Malazan world, just finished 4th book and I'm pausing until my 5th copy arrives. I fell in love with the series after Deadhouse Gates.
Spoiler

And god, the characters are so good! I love Quick Ben and Anomander Rake the most. And I'm currently shipping Pearl x Lostara, that cute violent love. The world and the races and everything is really unique and beautifully developed. Definitely my second favorite writer, Mr. Erikson (can't put him before Tolkien).

Otherwise, I'm a future college student, anime fan, RPG nerd and a an amateur writer. Nice to meet you all!

Welcome! I have to say...I think you're going to fit right in! XD

We're fairly active - the main problem you're going to have is that many of our regulars have moved on from discussing (at much length, lol) the earlier books, so it can be a bit quiet in those forums. Still, plenty of people frequent them enough to answer questions/indulge crazy theories. And forewarned is forearmed, I guess, but you'll probably get a few "read and find out" replies to questions, unfortunately. Or copious spoilers. >.> But still, enjoy! :D

...and I see you've already found the anime thread. Heh.

Welcome! I don't know if many people here (if there are any) discuss shipping, but it is definitely a topic I'm interested in. :D Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks that way, haha.

Thanks for the comment on my art thread too. :p

it'll stress you out even more so there's really nothing we can do about it after all.

Shipping is too expensive, that's my contribution to the issue.

Thank you all!

What! You have no thread about couples in the franchise? But... there are so many...
I'm not that fond of romance-only books, but I do love when my favorite character in a fantasy book such as this get together. Actually, after reading through Pear and Lostara's first tumble I decided to seek out a forum. XD

First we allow shipping and then the next thing you know there will be fanfics and then crossovers.

Good god, I reserve the right to kill the author of the first shipping fanfic crossover between the MBotF and MLP.

Aw, so it's not allowed to open a thread to discuss couples in the books?

Well, is it alright if I ask a question about drawings here?
I wanted to post a few of my sketches of Malazan characters, but since this is my first time trying to draw anything more than an anime face, I had to use a body reference. Now, my drawings are a year old and I think I googled body references, so I don't know which artist did those and I can't give them credit. Those drawings of mine are just something I did for fun and this would be my first time posting them online. Is it fine if I do post them on here?

You can start a thread regarding romances in the books. The general book thread would probably be the best place for it. Becareful in there though as ALL books are discussed and it may spoil things for you.

Becareful though, you could be laying the first stone on the road to ruination. :D

It would hardly be the first stone, Kell. :p

Moreover, I do recall there being several discussions of romances in the books in the past. Granted, that might very well have been before the great forum apocalypse, but it also might not have been. We just didn't ever think of it as 'shipping' back then. XD

Though I second the move to murder the author of any MBotF/MLP fanfic. XD

I think it would be fine if you posted those drawings here, too. More than a year out I don't think anyone is going to panic over it anyway, but best bet is just to put a disclaimer that you used said references and don't recall the owner - just make it clear that it's not your work, and we're fine. Not like it's for profit or anything, either. :D

Can someone explain the correlation between romance and shipping?
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Shipping can involve virtually any kind of relationship — from the well-known and established, to the ambiguous or those undergoing development, and even to the highly improbable and the blatantly impossible. People involved in shipping (called shippers) variously assert that the relationship does exist, will exist, or simply that they would like it to exist.

Alright. Thanks. I do need to scan them first though.

My coworkers once raised money for me to write to a mail order bride. As a joke (I hope...).

Elsie from Singapore, why didn't you write back to me? :D

Anyway, that's my only romance/shipping story.

I initially thought shipping was a really weird subsection of fanfic culture revolving around taking random characters and creating wacky pirate-themed adventures based around them. It confused me that people got so passionate and angry about such a wonderful yet silly premise.

If it doesn't, it will.

Even if I have to write it myself.
