Thought we needed a review thread. I just finished book 2, review here:

I've got the first in my TRP, but haven't got to it yet.
Maybe I should bump it up.

They are definitely worth checking out SB. I read them a couple of years ago and enjoyed them quite a bit.

My only minor gripe was:

Spoiler

Well, the series isn't finished yet! So I'm hoping (along with you) that we get those explanations, because I agree those threads have been built up very nicely over the first four books.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

I thought that the last book that was published (the fifth one) was the end of the series. At least that was the official stance when I read the series initially and wanted to find out if there would be any more books. This was maybe a year ago, not more than two. I see wiki has an unamed sixth book listed as coming in 2011, but the source link is broken. I'd love for there to be another book, so I'll keep my eyes out and hopefully it happens.

It's not book 6, or even really another Castor story - dammit - but PS Publishing is releasing

THE COMPLETE SHORT STORIES OF MIKE CAREY

https://www.pspublis...arey-4859-p.asp

...also available as a tpb... which will include among other things a story set in the Felix Castor books setting.

This week's previews newsletter has a fair amount of info about its contents. https://preview.mailerlite.com/b9o8g4

I'm a fan, will possibly even spring for the slipcased version, it's been ages since i bought anything in signed dead tree.

I'm going to buy this simply because it's a possible way to encourage all parties to get the series finished. Been so long now...
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

How good are these? I have generally liked what Mike Carey has produced.

Very good, but smaller scope in comparison to something like Dresden. More like Aaronovitch's series or Alex Verus series.

Very much slow boil, low action, high tension. There is magic but it's generally gritty real. The first one is good, just don't expect Dresden. 2-3 are better and very much Carey writing to his strengths while veering away from Lucifer level epic. 4-5 are among the bestest urban fantasy stuff I have read. 5 does end the series but every few years Carey teases bk 6 and i resist the urge to hunt him down and devour his brains.

There's also a pretty heavy Hellblazer vibe to them. Which isn't a shock since Carey was writing Hellblazer at the time he started this.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I love both of those, so that's good.

Both of these comments make them sound very very tempting.

I've read this comment elsewhere, but never really thought so. Sure, it's Carey writing urban fantasy so there are stylistic elements in common - and to be clear i enjoy both - but I never saw much resemblance between the series beyond that. Castor and Constantine are very very different leads.
