Half way through it and enjoying it immensely. I have to wonder though, does he ever go full .... Bloody? With the hammy declarations of everyone's impending violent death? Because that was always fun to read.

Wait n see!
Just finishing it up, and it did not disappoint. Kind of a mash of Deadwood meets.. Skyrim, with some Unforgiven aspects (the writer) and some classic Abercrombie black humour thrown in.
Loved it. Oh, was the Mayor

Finished it. Great read and I liked what a classic ending it had. Very appropriate. Also that scene when Glama Golden realized who he was facing... I grinned maniacally while also feeling very sorry for Glama.

Ha ha, yes it was something like...
He'd hit Lamb about as hard as he'd ever hit any man, and he swayed but instead of going down, he started to laugh...
'No...it can't be...'
Smashing piece of writing

Apparently everyone has this fucking book but me.
Stupid Canadian imprint not releasing it on time.
It's out today, so I'm hoping to get it and read it before COLD DAYS drops on the 17th.
Excited for more Abercrombie.

Is that meant to be that obvious to us fans of his work, or did it take everyone longer to sort that out?
Anyways, at only one chapter in I can already tell I'm gonna like this book. Onto Chapter 2 and Cosca!

There's a great little conversation between Shy and Lamb
Abercrombie has gotten pretty good at funny dialogue I think.

Its pretty damn obvious who Lamb is from the very start, but I like the way JA makes you wait for that confirmation. Also, the fact that his previous name doesn't get a mention in the whole book.
Best scene.. when Lamb 'tags along' to the meeting Sweet has previously planned with the ghosts.. great way to really confirm those suspicions.

And then Gun Machine for dessert.

Heroes is still my favourite "standalone" by Abercrombie, but I did thoroughly enjoy red country.
he has this great way of taking the macabre and making it amusing, but not in a ..crass? way.
Loved the bit where Lamb says he used to be a bit of a mad bastard 30 years ago, he never brags or boasts, just states, and that makes him all the more menacing. Total contrast to Cosca's braggardly ways that cover for a man who is totally lost.
Cosca's bow was wonderfully simple, considering the way his involvement in any scheme usually leaves him in a poor state physically. (alive, but busted up would cover most of what we know of his many miraculous survivals)
it was a little slow to start but once it kicked off I couldn't set it down. One more thing I love about abercrombies characters is how he can make a moral comentary via one character, and not have to ram the message down our throats, its just another entertaining person in the mix.
