He called Equilibrium "bad movie". He is doomed.

"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die!"

I agree wholeheartedly with the first place choice on this list. That is an awesome movie, truly awesome!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

There should have been a movie made with an Andre the Giant sword fight.

I've always liked the sword fight from Die another Day.

I agree with Aptorius. The fencing scene was excellent, probably my favorite part from that particular Bond movie.

Additionally, the sword fight in Troy that io9 mentioned is incredible. It shows off the incredible skill and athleticism of both characters in a way that does them justice, something that the movie focused on and did very well.

However, another great sword fight that missed the list is the duel between Anaking Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith. Say what you will about the movie, that particular fight was incredible. John Williams once again creates an amazing song for the battle while both actors gave it their all to execute it - without the use of stunt doubles.

Where's the fight between The Bride and the Crazy 88 from Kill Bill ?

List is flawed.

Although I agree with The Princess Bride at No 1
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

I think 1-on-1s is the idea. Hence the Bride vs O-Ren in the bonus rounds.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Why has he included the scene from Equilibrium then ?

Bale hacks up about 10 guys.

Hmmm. I'd probably go Obi Wan v. Anakin over Luke v. Vader. Both are emotionally massive for different reasons. Both end in denials. Both have choppy, choppy. But, only one is absolutely fucking kick-ass in every way visually. Those dudes prepared for a long, long time for that fight. It pays off in every way other than the stupid last "I have the high ground!" moment.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

For those of a cetain generation, what about Erryl Flynn's Robon Hood, I think I remember reading somewhere that the swordmaster responsible for this movie came out of retirement to choreograph the first Star Wars movie. I just loved those Sat afternoon matinees.

As a FURTHER fyi, you are BOTH referring to the same man, the legendary Bob Anderson,

Who also, as it happens, choreographed the fight in The Princess Bride.

I even started a thread about him at the time, here
meh. Link was dead :(

As a huge fan of bladed weapons, most especially swords, I'm glad to find this thread. I was happy to see the duel from Rob Roy get mention. (As an aside, Tim Roth stole the show as the villian in this movie, imo.) I've always felt this was one of the best I've seen. The deadly seriousness of "No quarter; none asked, none given" is well portrayed and the tension builds throughout. It's not a constant, lightning fast exchange of blows as one expects from samurai swordfights, but a slower, more measured pace. I've always thought it seemed very realistic. The difference in the swords (a rapier vs a Scottish basket hilt claymore) and styles used also adds something to it. "Death from a thousand cuts" seems imminent until the surprising (and possibly implausable) conclusion. I would also give a nod to the Eric Bana/Brad Pitt duel from Troy. Seemed realistic to me with an attempt to be true to the fighting style of the era. There are several pretty good swordfight scenes in The Last Samurai as well.

I agree to me the best sword fight is Rob Roy.
