Duiker is the best, and Heboric is right behind him. With the latter's guarded emotions and cynical world-weariness, and the former's refusal to get to that point despite the temptation and perhaps even sympathy for that worldview...they really complimented each other the whole way through the book.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Bult. The man's a legend.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

Why, Coltaine and Duiker of course. Coltaine is bad ass genius worthy of worship, Duiker is bad ass historian worthy of being remembered.

I liked Iskarel Pust as the funniest Character. His interaction with the Bhokarala was hilarious. Anyone else imagine those little critters as Jabba the Hut's pet?

My fav is Coltaine, because:
1. at first, I didn't expect him to be a major character, so I really surprised with his major role in the story.
2. his self sacrificing and crucifixing (ok, I admit that I compared Coltaine with JC)
3. he is the badass of the DG :w00t:. I liked Kalam in the GotM, but he lost his charm in DG.

Coltaine. It wasn't until I finished DG that I realised how great he was and as you progress through the series you begin to miss him. Same with Baudin.

Duiker. I really enjoyed his reflections on the war, and who could forget him collapsing the throat of some noble-born? :w00t:

Roach. His/Her character development is unparalleled within the novel.

Duiker and Fiddler, without a doubt. Coming in close was Coltaine and Kalam.

Coltaine's death left a huge impression on me. The way he was killed and the amount of crows that came for his soul... ah, gave me the chills. So I'd go with him and Duiker. Duiker seemed like a genuinely nice guy, deeply saddened and tired of the death around him, scared even, someone regular people can relate to, while Coltaine was more godly. So I chose the two of them, as complete opposites character-wise.

The characterization in DG is so strong that it's hard to pick just one... but if i'm going to pick one single character whose every scene just blew my mind, i have to go with Coltaine.

If we're talking viewpoint characters only i'd go with Duiker.

Fiddler's horse was a close second tho'.

DG has so many iconic moments, that it's hard to single out a certain character, but Coltaine's fall was so dramatic, that I will have to pick him. Duiker also gets special mention, for providing an amazing outlook on the Chain of Dogs.

I liked Duiker best. IMO he provided the most believable, intelligent and coherent PoV in the whole series. Heboric, while much less likeable, was at least written similarly as well.

Duiker. The scene where he joins the Chain of Dogs was so epic I could hear the John Barry/Jerry Goldsmith/Ennio Morricone/John Williams music that would play over that scene in a movie, in my head.

And kicking that nobleman's face in didn't hurt either.

I have a hard time seperating the story into various books. So I may be wrong as to if Im thinking about the right book, but I liked that guy List.

It was List, right? He was the one who ended up carrying the 7 Cities banner next to Coltaine at the very end. He was also the soldier who kept messing up, and he also didn't have to be up there next to Coltaine at the end. In fact, he had the chance to leave with Dukier and go into Aren. Now I'm hoping I remembered correctly, and hoping I have the right book. I'm also saying List just to call out someone who's yet to be mentioned. All the above are awesome characters, but List is one of the characters that Erikson uses to fuel the emotion of the story.
And when you're Gone, you stay Gone, or you be Gone. You lost all your Seven Cities privileges. - Karsa

you're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be...
