I'm going to assume you people saw this, but here is the preliminary rough draft of what would have been Darell Sweet's art for the cover of AMOL.

While it is less obnoxious than a lot of his other covers...it still suffers from the same stuff his art has always suffered from...and I still find it kind of meh. I'd like to see this appear on the inner dust jacket or something though, as a tribute to the man.

That's not going to happen. They said so when it was announced that Whelan was doing the print cover.

Meh, you never know. People change their minds. Publishers change their minds more than people do.

I realize Whelan is doing the cover, but it would be a nice gesture to throw this inside somewhere in the back appendix or something.

And the full art with back flap:

I like it.

It sticks with the theme of the others, but with that "Whelantouch".

Not too shabby.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

A very admirable homage to Sweet, done in Whelan style.

Awesome!

I really like this! They should have used it! Not that the Whelan cover is bad, but this right here is beautiful and very fitting for the final volume!

I would agree that this should be included in the final volume in full-color somehow though. Actually they should have a reversable-dust-jacket with both versions!

I was trying to screenshot the DKS cover from my desktop and as soon as I released to take the pic, the image changed.

that looks cool, maybe they could do that one,
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

ha, I had a fantasy they would do it for the ebook. Just because it's an amazing coincidence how they work together, and that way all the ebook art would be different. But it's probably a bit of a pipe-dream; artists have really strong feelings about stuff like this, I gather.
