Kalam is Terry Crews.

Quick Ben is Don Cheadle.

I think Mikkelson has to be Toc the Younger just so he can have an eyepatch.

Kallor is Schwarzenegger.

Ganoes is Brenden Frasier

Dujek I always though of Liam Niesson

Stormy is a super buff Damien Lewis (Band of Brothers FTW)

Thats about all I can think of off the top of my head.

Arnie as Kallor?

How?
But!

The mind boggles.

Kallor Amway struck me as someone that's just cruel, its in his face, his eyes. That's his imposing part, not physically threatening. Tall and gaunt almost. I can't think of anyone who would carry that menace off. Maybe Gary Oldman channeling a bit of his villan mode. But taller.

I was thinking the old worn down looking guy who looks like he could still lift a sword if it came to it.

Hmm. TRUE, but Arnie to me looms more like someone who can still take and dish out a beating, but not with any great speed.

The description I remember most is when Nimander and Co run into him and think he is just an old man travelling along the road, but oddly strong as if he can still lift the giant sword on his back.

I don't have that look of casual cruelty in my minds eye, but I could be wrong.

Hmm, I'll admit to virtually skimming a lot of that book so we'll have to agree to differ on our minds eyes.

I always thought Jack Earle Haley who played Guerrero in Human Target would make a perfect Fiddler.

I always see Don Cheadle as QuickBen and Idris Elba as Kalam. In my head.

Ewan McGregor has been Toc The Younger for me since I first read GotM.

Sara Rue has always been Tattersail (pre-skinny Sara Rue though)

Billy Zane has always been Dancer.

And since he can play a good bonkers guy Keith David as Kellanved/Shadowthrone.

Gary Oldman always manifests as Iskaral Pust.

Bob Hoskins is obviously Kruppe.

David Morse seems a good fit for Whiskeyjack.

Maggie Q would make an ideal Sorry/Apsalar.

oh and this is my favoruite...Robert Downey Jr. as L'oric, with Frank Welker doing his Nibbler voice from Futurama as Greyfrog.

Indeed. I see that. Though I wonder if the challenge to do the non-sardonic bits would be something RDJ could try out.

I don't like Arnie for Kallor. I remember the description you mention of him, but I got the impression that he was fairly skinny looking; old, skinny, but still fit. The oddly strong wasn't him looking strong, it was an ephemeral quality.
That's the impression I got anyway... *goes to have a look*
Looking at the wiki, he is often described as gaunt:
"He was gaunt, but then, he had always been gaunt. His thin, grey hair was unkempt, drifting out long in his wake. His beard was matted, knotted with filth. His eyes, icy blue, were as feral as any beast of the plain."
"But this man was neither dying nor weak. He walked with the stiff purpose characteristic of the mad, the deranged.'
I could see Walken managing that, I couldn't see Arnie doing it.

Keith David seems way too buff to be Kellanved. I always thought of him as fairly wiry. Actually, I think of him as a slitely less ridiculous looking Pust.
"...a small black man with gnarled limbs and short grey hair. Or so the pretence. At first glance he looked like nothing more than a withered-up old gnome."

Idris looks like a good Kalam and Neeson for Wiskeyjack too :) Oh and the Stormy suggestion.
Cheadle for QB I could see, but I've always liked Lance Reddick. His frame is great and his face is perfect. It's hollow enough and some of his looks are just so QB.
He's also 6'3" and QB was supposed to be tall (though height is easy to change for a film, still another plus)

I really like Jack Earle Haley for Fiddler :)
And Bob Hoskins could probably do Kruppe. I could never think of anyone for him.
Bane version of Tom Hardy is a good call for Brood.
"So how'd you save the world?"
"Averted the rapture by drowning the baby Jesus in his own tears"

NOt only do I picture Bob Hoskins as Kruppe, I hear Hoskins accent when he was Smee in HOOK when I read his dialogue in the books.

The aged Clint Eastwood really fits my image of Kallor.
And the young Harrison Ford is a Toc the Younger.
but are they worth preserving?

Malcolm Grant as Dujek?! I'm sorry, but Dujek is not a moustache-wearer :) Funny story (not really), I once saw Grant in the supermarket, buying himself a ready-meal for one. Awwwww.

Agreed on the tash, but I still stand by my point: they have the same build, slim, wiry, an air of natural authority about them, both are excellent speakers, tacticians, strategists, white-haired, elderly gentlemen. Good enough for me.

Funny you should pick up on that today- I have just read that he is going to step down as Provost at the end of September 2013, and he shaved his tash off for charity once, a few years ago. You UCL?

Tactician and strategist? Is that because of that UCL arms sales furore a while back :) I was there when he shaved his 'tache off. He actually started crying, the poor guy! He must have had it for decades, and he grew it back again in super-quick time. I'm surprised he's stepping down, thought he would be there for a long time yet. Yeah, I did my undergrad and master's at UCL a few years back - are you still there?

Nice one! Yup, I'm still there for at least a year, but I am post-doc, I didn't do any undergrad stuff at UCL. Apparently his tash was aged 33, pretty mature, when he shaved it off. I think he is stepping down because he's reaching retirement age soon. Or maybe he will take up another prestigious position we don't know yet about.
