While Topper is investigating the Tyrant's tomb he had this line of inner dialogue

p. 351

Quote

Here he noted the faintest remnant glimmers of ancient wards and Warren magics. To his eye the work appeared to bear the touch of an Elder's or Other's hand. In either case, not plain human Warren manipulation. This fitted with what he knew of what he faced.

What is an Other? I assume it would be a demon as we have heard characters call members of the Cabal demons. It just struck me as odd because we have never heard that term used before to describe demons in Malaz. Also the capitalization struck me as odd, but since ICE also capitalized 'Warrens' so maybe it doesn't mean anything.

So, just another name for demons? Or some new bit of world building?
So, you're the historian who survived the Chain of Dogs.
Actually, I didn't.

It seems you stand alone.
It was ever thus.

I noticed it aswell. I assumed it was like Hood anc Co. Those gods that arent Elder but arent the new breed either. I think itss just a turn of phrase rather than a set title for a new kind of demon.

I hope its not more world building given weve got so many answers to fill from the existing plotlines.

It is vague, given the fact that the word other is used when metion of the Crippled god comes by.

Also, the last piece of the epilogue, Tayschrenn is asked about "the other" but I don't know wether this is about a god or not.

Sometimes Esslemont uses different terminology from Erikson, such as "Touched" for warren-users, "Chem" and "Enchantress" for (at least an aspect of) Mael and Queen of Dreams and also the "Scimitar" for the jade statues so perhaps this is just another case of this and it refers to something we've already seen. The Cabal demons strike me as the most likely candidates for the term.

Different terms make sense if they're wanting to build a more realistic word since not every culture would have the same term for the same things.

I agree, he is referring to the demonic part of warren manipulation the Cabal members have, being originally demonic themselves. In this case it was Mammot who did most of the wards.

Also he mention demonic warren manipulation when referring to Taya as well since she is Vorcan's daughter, which I assume makes her part demon also.
