In this environment his party could just gather round him in support and say 'no more interviews for that guy ever' and his company would probably just fire him if he didn't drop a lawsuit. When, as an example, literal GTA character Darrell Issa is still in politics merely threatening a dude is nothing.

Really weird place you got there. I guess we're weird, but in a different way. I remember there was a minor Aboriginal public figure, highly decorated (Order of Canada) who was accused of spewing racist remarks. Or rather, the remarks were clearly racist, but question was whether it constituted hate speech or not. He was in and out of the news for a while, but during one of his interviews during that time, he was just a little rude to a female reporter. Didn't threaten to break her like a child or anything close. He was just kind of dismissive of her question and at one point addressed her as "young lady". Well, the next thing you know, the story blew up into, "Not only is this guy an anti-semite, he's also a misogynist." I never heard of him before all this, but suddenly it was all over the news. They never bothered to explain why he won all those awards, but they kept emphasizing he was a racist and a sexist and "people" were calling for him to be stripped of his honours.

And that, my friend, is why you should be polite to reporters. They have the power to take you down.

Fair enough. I think I've seen snippets of Maury/Montel/Springer that were more civilized than the few snippets of Fox News I've seen. I don't think I'm even exaggerating there. Panel commentaries with people shouting over each other. Staggeringly unprofessional and disappointingly uninformative. I can't watch more than about 2 minutes. I thought people watched it more for the theatre than anything else.

MafiaManager is a little program alt146 wrote to help the mafia moderators keep track of votes, deaths, etc. He hosted it on a free website. As time as went by the program became glitchy, probably due to updates in php and javascript, and the free site doesn't seem to exist most days. So awhile back I asked him for the code to see if I could get it running on my hosted site. I couldn't because I suck at coding. Fast forward a year or so. I just received an offer to help get it running.

And I hesitated.

The first thought that went through my head was "oooo I wonder which alt he is playing" (it's a mafia thing). The second thought is the one that disturbs me almost beyond words.

"Do I want an Iranian IP address connecting and uploading code to a website with my name on it?"

The more I think about this the more incensed I become. At myself. At maniacs. At the human condition. But mostly at my fellow countrymen for we have allowed our politicians to sell us fear beyond reason and we've eagerly bought it on the notion that security trumps all.

Oh, I did. What has me just (almost literally) sputtering to myself is that the thought crossed my mind. That such a simple fucking thing could bring me to the attention of my OWN government. Fuck my government. I'm an American; land of the free. Who the fuck are they to tell me I can't hop on a plane and go visit Cuba if I want to? Texas governor Rick Perry, who ran in 2012, finally figured out the third government agency he wanted to get rid of, and now he's been indicted.

You mean Jeb Bush? Come on man, you are American; you know how this works. He's a contender, but only one contender. We'll find out who will actually be on the ticket in 2016 (and we'll find out who will actually be running for the nominations before the end of next year).

It has been interesting to see how much attention Ferguson MO has been getting worldwide. I know it's relatively little, but still, I see European folks posting about it on Facebook and Twitter.
