I'm on my re-read of the series (up to MOI) and a thought has now occured to me.

Rather than A-Rake killing draconus over a difference in opinion etc.

Perhaps Draconus and Rake came to an agreement where Rake killed him so he was able to enter the sword and boost the progress of the wagon away from chaos (??) from within?

It would seem to ring true given that L. Envy has no animosity towards her fathers killer???
