Check the new paperback stonewielder UK for the prologue...I almost spent an hour in waterstones to read that...but....I would have looked a bit odd

I still might go back...there's lots of plot lines for it...including one where this guy is asking after someone called Traveller...so erm

What the shuddering fuck, why havnt we got it? Im going to town tomorrow to check this SW edition claim. Waterstones can go fuck themselves in the arse with a cactus if they give me abuse for reading in the shop. They can try and pry it from my cold dead fingers is what they can do....

Read it. Very very interesting. Writing seems even better than Stonewielder which was a drastic improvement over ROTCG.

I'm happy that the book seems like a direct sequel to Toll the Hounds with many of the same characters/characters relations. Also we've finally got clarification that the moon which exploded in Toll the Hounds has reformed (don't think it was ever explicitly mentioned by SE, just poetically i think. Sorry but it was a thing that I wanted clarification on)

My prediction that OST happens before the end of TCG seems to be correct as well. The jade strangers are mentioned in the sky and can be seen from the city. Also I'm betting that the stranger who cannot remember his name is Tayscreann.

I'm not sure about Kruppe's charactisation as to whether its 100% congruent with SE's, but Burak seems fine to me so far. But Kruppe is the big one.
I like the treasure collector. He seems quirky. I really like that Traveller is back. Interesting that the Empress's killer is around too.

I have a very good feeling about this one!

So I went into Waterstones today and sat my ass on the floor to read the prologue.

So people are digging for Tyrants as in actually digging in barrows. Raest is now called the 'Tyrant Raest' suggesting that he was the last of the Tyrant Kings, I cant remember if that explicitly stated. Someone called Ebbin from the guild of philosophers is looking for Raest though humble Measure is mentioned also.

The scene then shifts to a dancer dating *fuzzy memory* Lim, cousing/nephew of Shardin Lim (how did he die again?) from TTH. She just appeared and has been causing a stir as the best dancer and though nephew Lim is the runt of the litter through her maneuvring she has gotten him a place on the Council. It turns out she is Taya Radok, Vorcans daughter and the killer of Laseen and is manipulating this Lim in a similar way that Vorcan was trying to get on the Council in TTH. Taya however claims Lim should ally himself with Humble Measure the ironmonger. This seems in direct conflict with her mothers aims given Humble Measures contract on Vorcan in TTH.

Baruk knows something is coming and has an ominous conversation with Kruppe about things coming. He knocks over an inkwell like in GOTM which seemed ominous but really this is an anticipation passage. I was very aware I was reading ICE when I read this prologue but especially when reading this build-up style passage

Interesting section of someone pushing a large demon from some sort of 'water'. The water is killing this demon,who is a highborn of Aral Gamelon. The man pushing doesnt remember his name but has been given a new one. Potentially Tays but its not clear, though the demon believes the man must be eleint to resist the power of this 'water' to which the guy says 'I am just a man'. May tie in to the Shores of Creation plotline.

The last one is the typical nonsensical old woman who lives in a rough part of town saying 'almost time, almost time'. Shell likely be hugely important at some point.

So I hopefully havnt missed anything there

1: Raset and the Tyrant Kings.
While Raest is described as a Tyrant he is not described at all as one of Darujistan's Tyrant Kings. Which makes sense because Darujistan was built after Raest was imprisioned by the Jaghut/Imass. The treasure collector believes that Raest was active recently (GOTM) but most people don't believe it.
The treasure collector is looking for the tomb of the last and greatest of the Tyrant Kings. Those are his thoughts on the subject.

2: Traveller
You have missed the section where Traveller is now described as an old man ("oldster" is the word used) living in a monastory who is challanged by an arrogant Sword-fighter who is the best of all the Falar and Quan Tali fighting schools. This guy wants to beat the "legendary" Traveller who killed the most feared and powerful of all Ascendents. (This is the sword-fighter's thoughts on Rake, not an impartial narrators). Traveller says that he has retired from all sword-play and beats him using a broom-stick when the otehr guy won't stop hassling him. The other guy does not recognise that Traveller is the old man with the broom. The sword-fighter leaves the monastory deep in thought and Traveller hopes he has learned a lesson. Aside from looking old, Traveller has shaved his head and is now the Master of the monastory by the people/students living there, though he doesn't like the title. He doesn't go by the name Traveller any more too. Basically Traveller comes across as some Kung-Fu master in the mountains who seems to want to restart his life.

3: The demon in the water scene
The description of the water is defintely the shores of creation (The Kurald Liosan/Kurald Galain boundary.) The waves are described as shimmering and filled with light.
