Sinn SPOILERS. A few questions concerning this little...thing.

So I read the whole works and am kinda confused as to what is happening with Sinn.
First, where did she come from? (think it was the chain of dogs but can't remember)
Second, where did her power come from? (and not just the normal fire power she had, she was also able to create power through Grub and switched to a whole knew power when her current one couldn't her Gesler/Stormy)
Third, Sinn started out nice, she even rescued those guys from Y'Ghatan. But then she went all apeshit on them and tried torching everything in a quarter mile radius at the spar. What was that about? All she said was "You need to be reminded about fire" then she lit up the countryside.

Well, she's definitely Malazan. Either from Quon Tali or the isle I guess, don't remember exactly. She was already a mage, but she gets her souped up firepower in part from the Y'Ghatan fire elemental/godling, I believe, and then later from Icarium's super-powerful new warrens. She was dealing with several layers of PTSD, as well as less than savory influence from the aforementioned godling (IMO). Going wholly untreated, in a world where those things naturally do go untreated, she essentially cracked by the end. And had the extraordinary power to lash out.

I believe she's from 7C, actually. At some point chaos broke out at her famil estate (as part of one of the 7C rebellions maybe?) and the servants killed most of her family, raped her mother (which she saw) and then raped her. She uncontrollably lashed out with sorcery and killed them all. She was later taken in by Febryl who trained and abused her until she ran away and got mixed up in the latest 7C rebellion. Kalam ran into her at the siege in HoC, where she was sabotaging the whirlwind forces from within trying to reunite with her half-brother in the Ashok regiment.

I thought one of the bonehunter soldiers was her brother?

Oh that's a good point, d'rek. The encyclopedia just says "Malazan" but it could be used pretty loosely. And if I remember correctly, the Ashok regiment is made up of 7 Cities locals so it makes sense that Sinn would be 7 Cities native too. Totally forgot about that.

He's in the Ashok regiment, the survivors of which join the bonehunters at the end of HoC (they ambush Febryl as she's fleeing Raraku and then join the 14th, while Kindly and Pores were captured and held in Raraku after falling in the well with the Theloman in it and are released by dead Bridgeburners then make their way to the 14th).

So she was a powerful adept (one who is naturally gifted with magic) who had no formal training and was severely scarred from the rebellion. That makes sense.
but she held off the fire elemental in Y'Ghatan and allowed many to escape, so I don't think it fed her powers that much, but Iccy's new warrens could have.
Another question is Grub. He has the same elemental powers, but not to the extent that Sinn does. (and what are they, Sinn's power is mainly fire, and the only time grub fully unleashes his is when she more or less possesses him.) he also shares the same gut feelings that she seems to have, which allow them to find people really easy.
They definately seem to be connected, but it doesn't explain where the power comes from, I mean grub didn't even know he had powers until Sinn threw a wall of fire at him...

Grub's definitely comes from Iccy's new warrens. Sinn must have been powered by the Y'Ghatan incident (or around that time), as she is called upon to hold back the Omtose ritual close to the Letherii continent. Maybe Sinn was a naturally powerful mage, just not in control and without formal training? Hard to tell, seeing as we cannot define "formal" mage training in the Malazan universe. Doesn't seem to be anyone doing the training is all.

I find it hard to believe that Sinn is 'naturally powerful" enough to hold back a fire elemental and stop an Omtose Phellack ritual, the only other one who could do that was Olar Ethil, and she is ancient.
Actually...
Sinn first became powerful at Y'Ghatan. The same time and place that a fire elemental is created, yet with the knowledge that it will die soon. How hard would it be for the elemental to simply possess Sinn?
Think about it, Sinn's magic is completely fire based and it explains her going nuts on everyone else at the end. It also explains why she is so detached from everyone except grub, who has similar type powers.

Grubb had powers before Icarium's warrens; he was constantly doing weird psychic shenanigans for example (like warning Keneb about Malaz city, not to leave, etc). Also when journeying through Icarium's warrens, he defended himself from Sinn using a bunch of earth to form a shield. So...Driss?

This is the reason we love SE. He takes a little girl and does not make her cute and cuddly.

I found Sinn to be one of the series' epically most tragic characters. Some poor girl with her mind scarred forever by horror, those wounds never healing but instead festering until she (being a natural mage) was a danger to everyone around her.
Was her half-brother named? By TCG I remembered that some soldier was, but couldn't remember which one or if it was specified.

Either Shard or Cord from the Ashok regiment. And I'm pretty sure he died.

Well, natch's outline of sinn's lifeline certainly gives reason to her power and insanity. So she was originally an adept, trained by Fayelle, horrible childhood, obsession with fire. And then the back-shit insane part. Well, I'd say you got it all.
