Listen up peoples... it's JUNE 2011 and GRRM's A DANCE WITH DRAGONS is hitting the streets, early and extensively.

We know that some and eventually many of you will be reading it and positively dying to discuss.

All good. BUT...

1) At least until well after the book is released, Do NOT post spoilers in existing threads. Start new threads instead.

2) If you DO post spoilers in existing threads

USE THE SPOILER BLOCKS.
-> open square [ bracket, then the word 'spoiler', then close square ] bracket, then the text you want to hide, then open square [ bracket, forwards / slash, then the word 'spoiler', then close square ] bracket. it should work (clicky)
Spoiler
.

3) NO SPOILERS IN THREAD TITLES.

Seriously people, i will personally and publicly berate, deride, shame, ban, delete and excommunicate the first person who starts a thread titled any variation of 'OMFG THEY KILLED TYRION! AFTER HE SHAGGED DANY!!! AND ALSO JAIME IN CH3 DIES'.

And don't even get me started on what i'm going to do to the second person.

And If you start a new thread, the title and/or first post should

clearly state if there are SPOILERS.

4) For your own enjoyment, those of you who have not read the book yet

SHOULD ASSUME EVERYONE IS A BLIND FRIKKIN IDIOT WHO IGNORED points (1) thru (3).

5) If you do spot an unblocked spoiler in the wrong place, report it and we'll swoop down on our modgod wings and deal with it with our modgod powers.

WITH GREAT WRATH AND HORRIBLE VENGEANCE.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and enjoy the book.
I look forward to discussing it with you eventually.

- Abyss, the man behind the curtain.

If I may make a suggestion as well, you should hire a squad of assassin-mages to "eliminate" anyone who breaks the spoiler rules. Claws or Faceless Men, I don't care, but somebody.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I'm afraid I don't know what this comment is getting at....ADWD is not going to be late....in fact some of our forumites either have it, or it's in the post on it's way to them...

It got pushed from June (which is when Abyss started this post) to July , atleast on Amazon anyway.

Hey, BTW, what do you think is the chance that Tyrion will hook up with Dannerys, find true love and they will rule the world together.

If any Amazon was ever showing a June release date, it was erroneous. July 12 has been the "official OFFICIAL" release for months and any deviation from that since, I think, February or March has been a seller error, not a delay.

Because GRRM has been so consistently predictable through the first four volumes. Posted Image

There are other threads comparing the respective strengths and weaknesses of GRRM and SE. This is not one of them.

Ok here it comes

We are on a Malazan forum. I see a post from a person I look up (the great Abyss :-)
and what is it about. It is an expression of love for GRRM

A guy who jilted his fans for a long long time
And everybody is welcoming him with open arms, forgiveness, a love fest and great anticipation.
He now has a whole miniseries dedicated to his work where as the series I want to see will never ever be on TV. (just because people can't get past his first book)

As you can see I am just jealous :-)
The world is not fair but you think you can atleast depend on your forum buddies.

P.S. I still like you Abyss

We are on a Malazan forum that is as impressive and enjoyable as it is because of, aside from the exceptional forum it offers for discussion of SE's works, the rapport and commonality its members share outside of an appreciation for Malazan (see: Phoenix Inn.) Also, we are on the GRRM subforum of the forum.

I think saying he "jilted his fans" is a generalization and mischaracterization, but I won't get into that. As for welcoming him with open arms, as a fan who was frustrated at the delay, I don't view frustration and excitement over the release as necessarily mutually exclusive.

I do hear you on this one. Still, if we pull a Tay and take the long view, I'm of the camp that it can only be a good thing for the genre (in which SE writes) if its audience is broadened by a commercially and critically successful HBO adaptation. You could be jealous, or you could celebrate the fact that HBO's GAME OF THRONES is a huge step closer towards the possibility that we might one day see MBotF on some screen somewhere. It's totally unrealistic to think that three years ago any network or producer anywhere would've been willing to back SE with the kind of finances and quality necessary to make an even halfway decent MBotF mini-series, series, or film. Now, it's still unrealistic, but definitely less so, and that's thanks in part because season one of THRONES broke through a lot of barriers, commercially and critically.

Actually, DWD was released early by amazon.de and forumites had confirmed their copies were on the way, hence the 'June' date. Given that at the very least the book is sitting in warehouses in Germany, we ARE going to see it more or less on time in July.

We have other, many, diverse, threads for complaining about the inhumane injustice of all things GRRM timing related. That said and say what one will, he writes good books and i intend to read the next one.

Also, there will be no Goodkind subforum. My eyes can't take that much bleedout. The Omen Machine can bite me.
