Pg696 Dust of Dreams - Bantam (HC)

Rudd Elalle's name has changed to RYADD ELEIS, is this a mistake? I know names can be changed or seen differently from region to region, or a persons name is sometimes completely different like a nickname or, like with the gods, they have different names.

But this pronounces the same way and is not used in conversation like when words are wrote to express an accent. It is in the narration.

So, does anyone know, mistake? or intentional?

If, intentional though, what is the reason?

Cheers.

It's intentional. I thought there was a scene where Silchas even tells Rud that Ryadd Eleis is his true name.

Reason? He's a son of Menandore, but raised by first the humans of Meckros and then the Imass of the Refugium. His Meckros father's last name was Elalle, and Rud just means "found", unless my memory is majorly screwed. Hence his human-given name Rud Elalle. His Eleint name, given by Menandore or whoever it is that names such creatures, is Ryadd Eleis.

Wasn't Rud the Mekros word for foundling, and Elalle the adoptive parent's name (suggesting a link to Shurq, btw)?

pretty sure Ryadd Eleis was the eleint name Silchas gave him.

Yup. Shurq mentions an uncle she had on a Meckros city, btw.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Abyss and Ilona are right, here are the corresponding quotes:

Rud meant found in the Meckros trade tongue.

'No.'

but it wasnt meandore who named him,

she doesnt seem the kind of mum who would come up with a name, then find a people whose word for foundling is Rud and then find one of them whose surname sounds like eleis, just so years from now she could pretend to have meant it all along

Silchas tells Rudd, that his mother looked into his soul and saw true. Ryadd Eleis is his true name--and means: Hands of fire.

Silchas Ruin is actually an excellent bullshitter and loves puns.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Cheers Guys
