Finished up to the most recent ep of BLAST now (Ep12)....and HOLY SHITBALLS!

Spoiler

God I fucking love this show! Can't wait for Jan 10th for Ep 13!

EDIT: Just went over to the Funimation site and watched the 1st ep of PSYCHO-PASS...not what I was expecting. VERY dark, a little Judge Dredd and a lot of Minority Report...that first death was...go-ry. LOL. Good show so far though, but seems ultimately very bleak. But that's okay, I can enjoy bleak.

Nice to see arkada's new review. Also Psyho-pass is dark, it's by gen urobochi (fate/zero, Madoka) who has a tendency to be dark and gritty. He also doesn't feel the need to keep characters alive. Think of psycho-pass as minority report done properly with a twist of brave new world.

Well if I hadn't already been planning on watching Psycho-Pass, I would be now! ;) Fate/Zero is awesome. XD

Also, you know what else is awesome? Shin Sekai Yori episode 14! :D Forward and backward and up and down, my god that show just keeps on giving! Plot twists and turns in such an...organic way, I guess? I'm willing to bet this is one of those adaptations that is sticking pretty close to the source material - which is why it gives a feeling of "not a lot, but heaps" happening in each episode. And the previews! Argh! I normally don't watch next-ep previews (mainly because I normally don't watch EDs unless they're really good - which SSY's is - especially in completed series) but I swear they add like 10% value to the series by virtue of being so gloriously vague and suggestive while never actually lying to us. :p

For anyone desiring future reccomendations i would invest time in one of these
http://myanimelist.n...&show=0&order=4

It easy to make reccomendations based of what is already watched, and if you haven't seen much it's super easy and quick.

As you can see over a 5-6 year period i've seen a lot.

Just rented and watched the live action movie Rurouni Kenshin. (As evidenced by my new avatar). As a pretty big fan of the series, I was actually impressed. So many anime-turned-live-action can be absolute crap, but this one was very well done. There were some story/character changes, but they were done with some thought and worked in my opinion. Whenever it finally gets outside Japan, I recommend it.

Me neither. It just seemed such a daunting task to watch it all.

Rurouni Kenshin is perhaps the most moving anime I have ever watched. The series is a bit tough to complete but I enjoyed the movies. Ending of the second one guts me every time.

Edit

Watching the trailer of the live action movie. wow. Definitely gonna try get this. wow.

Watched Clannad? XD

That's my benchmark. If anyone can claim something is more moving than Clannad then I either NEED to watch the show in question or avoid it for fear of an emotional breakdown. >.<

In the series, once you get past the Kyoto-arc you can basically stop. Yeah, that still requires watching all the way into the mid-60's episode-wise, but worth it IMO. Everything that comes after that is pretty much dull filler episodes. I watched all 90-some, but didn't really enjoy it after the Shishio Makoto story was done.

Beats me as I haven't seen Clannad. I will say with complete seriousness however, that when I watched Rurouni Kenshin for the first time in college in the late 90's, in some respects it actually changed my worldview (and has set some values I still hold today). I know it sounds crazy to say that about an anime, but for better or worse it's true.

This.

Rurouni Kenshin changed how I saw people. Clannad is great and really moving in an RL setting but Kenshin hits you at a different, maybe more intense level? It questions what we know about feudal samurai and the culture of the time. theres great sword fighting so it satisfies the need for action while dealing with really heavy issues.

No more crazy than saying that about a book, or a movie, a sociological theory, or any other piece of human-created content. Anime gets less respect because it's animated, but I've yet to see that actually prove a detriment to any aspect of these shows, really. In a lot of ways, it gives a lot more freedom and control to the storyteller than working with live human actors. *shrug*

Registered here just so I could write this. Understand I'm a huge fan of Steve and Ian's books, and havent bothered registering before now, as everything that needed to be said was , well, being said.

Imagine a new anime ( with hope to gawd high production values ) opening scene. Work with me here:

View External, looking out from a high balcony behind Tall Mysterious Stranger.

His long hair nearly obscures the hilt of a large sword, itself hidden in darkness, liquid smoking shadows pouring off it to wither away in the day's light...his cape is thrown back as his right hand recoils and stretches out , deflecting a massive blast that casts actinic shadows on the surrounding scenery. Parts of the balcony are destroyed or smoking, but Rake himself appears unharmed. Both arms are raised as he prepares to counter Tayschrenn's next strike.

First scene to the anime series, Gardens of the Moon

Yeah? or HELL NO

I would be so in for that! I still maintain an anime would be a lot more practical way to adapt the books than live action movie or TV series. :(

As long as they didn't Sword Art Online it on me. That'd be disappointing. >.>
