Let's hope it doesn't degenerate into pink haired flag waving. Though it's Japan and the ladies who know anime there seem to be too busy writing lewd doujins like Hajimete so is there really a danger?

Finally got a chance to watch YOUR NAME. last night.

My gods. What a spectacular film. I mean I knew because it was Makoto Shinkai that I was in for something special but man, this was above and beyond.

It’s perfectly scripted, voice acted, scored and directed. The shot/scene decisions alone are worth noting. I mean some of the best cuts and transitions in the movie are simply POV ground-level sliding door shots.

I adored this movie. Glad I bought it and didn’t just rent it.

Oh, and the music. Radwimps FTW! I bought the deluxe soundtrack minutes after watching. Here's my two fave tracks.

That bit a third in where he throws her into a spin had my family standing up with applause. We like beautiful things.

Amazing.

In other news I’m trying Children who chase lost voices. Stunningly beautiful.

That one is great. Makoto Shinkai has never disappointed me.

It was kinda bizarre at the end. felt a lot like watching a 90's anime movie where you're sure you don't fully understand the subtext. I've lost people, but no one so immediate I feel that urge to reunite. This movie came really close to showing me what it might feel like, I think I'd recommend it to anyone still dealing with loss.

Very moving. not the best anime movie I've ever seen but it did touch me on an emotional level while pleasing my eye in art and animation.

Hey, I'm not saying the blatant sexual pantomine (good word) is necessarily bad, just that I wouldn't call it innuendo.

A lot of people are speculating after the first two episodes that what is going to happen is that MC-kun (who has erectile dysfunction can't pilot with that girl who's crushing on him) is really a "bottom" sexual pilot personality while pink-monster-girl is a top, and they'll finally find success/harmony/orgasm when MC-kun is the one piloting doggystyle, and him and everyone else will just have to get over the idea that hey girls can be tops, too.

This post... its so right on so many levels. I mean i just enjoying the dialogue here and there but you went deeep my friend

Heh.

So I like it, a lot.

I think 002 is awesome. I agree with everything you guys just said and I think this is the anime I'll be following this season.

I'm not sure why but the only thing annoying me in the entire show is the fact the Franxx have emotive faces. I don't know why but I like my massive robot faces to be Megazord stoic.

Remember how Unit 01 was stoic for the most, and then would erupt in berserk fury and there was that hint of an expression when the mouth opened? Again it's a parody extension of that, as far as I can see. I do rather like Zero-Two as a character, and her relationship with Hiro (who it seems she expects to die like the rest) is sufficiently complex. This week's episode got darker, too, especially when ZT's Franxx was mentioned to the other Plantation's kids.

Also anyone else noticed that 'parasite' is just a generic term for a child? LOL.

This week's Further felt kind of filler. I suppose you could see this as the lull before the storm?

Picked up Magi: Labyrinth. Seems like an entertaining enough take on Arabian Nights, with the added fun of being mercilessly kicked to death.

Firstly, I think parody is harsh. I'd say stark homage if I said anything. Parody makes it seem like the whole thing is a joke, and I feel that's far from the truth.

And parasite is not the generic term for kids. It's the term for the "pairing" of two kids for each Franxx. Thus, parasite (one feeding off the other).

Ah, but you see, the only terms that really get bandied around are 'adults' and 'parasites', and as children are indeed parasitical in nature, it fits.

Also, there's a marked difference between referential parody and parody that mocks. Homage would just be giant robots fighting aliens. The fact that it's an obvious pisstake, but one that absolutely loves the source material, is a dead giveaway.

Other than the fact that it's explicitly explained that parasite refers to the "pairings"...sure?

Not really when there are about a thousand anime shows and movies about giant robots fighting aliens. That's a subgenre, not an homage.

With the show being made by Trigger, I think you can safely conclude it's a weird mash of ALL of those - part homage, part pisstake, part parody, part deconstruction, all sloppily stirred together into one bowl. Trigger doesn't know how to just do one of those things (and we love them for it, even if the results are messy).

Exactly. It comes over as these things so much that I'm surprised anyone would miss it at all.

Tempted to rewatch the Hyperdimension Neptunia anime, if only for the fact that I'm finishing off the trophies for VII.

All quiet on the anime front this season. Have you seen the lineup for next season though? Geeez there's gonna be a lot going on.

I started watching Legend of Galactic Heroes. Think I can finish it before the remake airs next season? Do I have to actually watch all 110 episodes or are there filler parts I can skip?

DREK IS WATCHING LOTGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :killingme: :D :D :headbang:

None of it is filler D'Rek every episode is relevant. (one could argue there was too much to cram into its runtime)

Also i echo the feeling about it being quiet.

Overlord: I'm enjoying this but its okay. Its better than s1 surprisingly with the emphasis of how its focusing on other characters who aren't ridiculously overpowered.
Grancrest: I think i'm watching this out of boredom more than anything
Darling in the franx: The same, its bad, its funny but i can't take it seriously.
Magus Bride: stopped watching a while back, doubt ill get back into it.

On a side note, i started watching Ruroni Kenshin. I've been debating between yuyu hakusho, kenshin and monster. Since monsters not on crunchyroll, and kenshin was more recommended than yuyu thats where i went with. (still found a torrent for monster to watch at a later date).

The action scenes haven't aged well thus far though it's still early. 8 episodes in and i'm kinda getting bored. Also not really digging the dub. (certain vas are kinda flat). Unsure if its worth continuing. I might look into pirating a sub though at this rate.

Really? I have a good eight shows on this season, not counting those on Netflix I'm watching.

No news for next season I'm afraid. At least nothing known to me.

I don't mean that there's not a lot of shows being watch this season, more that there's just not that much to talk about them. A lot of them are kinda ordinary, I guess, not big talking points.

Whereas next season I imagine there will at least be discussion around all of these:

Legend of Galactic Heroes remake -- how does it compare to the beloved cult classic?

Hero Academia S3 -- we probably still won't all agree on this show some more

Steins;gate 0 -- apparently an emo alternate-timeline spin-off of the original, coming many years later. Impressions of this will be interesting.

Captain Tsubasa remake -- not sure if anyone here has seen the original but if so will be interesting to hear their impressions of how it compares

Cutie Honey remake/resequel thing -- same as above

GeGeGe no Kitaro remake/resequel thing -- same as above

Lupin III Part 5 -- Presumably this will be just as good as Part 4, and therefore I get to gush about it in this thread and convince everyone to watch it

Nobunaga's Shinobi S3 -- I get to gush about this show more in this thread, not that I actually expect anyone will watch it
