The person receiving the text in the café is Megumi, Mari's school-friend. I think this is setup (along with previous instances where Megumi has been overly cautious/skeptical to Mari about the whole Antarctica thing) for an impending conflict between Megumi and Mari, as Megumi is probably upset that her (best?) friend is increasingly drifting away from her towards these other friends. Also maybe a bit jealous that this Antartctica trip Megumi assumed would never really pan out is actually happening and she doesn't get to go.

Shirase's emails to her mom are definitely just a fruitless clinging-to-hope coping mechanism thing. All the adults on the expedition are having moments of being depressed and most didn't want Shirase to come on this expedition... sounds like Shirase's mom is definitely dead and maybe they're even planning to try and recover her body on this expedition.

Did you notice the three rules on the board in the training camp hall? Third one was "don't leave anyone behind".

Up to ep3 so far, watching it on netflix and i have to say I am enjoying the french dub. Never watched a french dub so far and its quite good (also you do get annoyed at hearing the same voices in anime as while the VA market in the USA isn't large, the japanese one, not that much so.

Just goes to show how well Gurren Lagann can change tones sometimes, and just because it's utterly ridiculous and a love letter to the old ultra-energetic mecha shows doesn't mean it will be all happy-go-lucky plot armour.

Yup, Kale is absolutely a Broly analogue, and a pretty cool way of bringing the Berserker Super Saiyan form into the main canon.

I think it stops there, though, I wouldn't really call Cabba and Kefla analgoues of Vegeta and Goku. If anything, Cabba is like a Gohan-for-Vegeta. Their universe still has a whole planet of Saiyans, anyways, seems like these are just the 3 strongest. And unlike Universe 7 where Goku and Vegeta are by far the top fighters, the saiyans in Universe 6 are strong but still probably only on par with or even outclassed by some of their teammates like Hit. Plus then there's Doctor Rota's ludicrously overpowered doctor ability

I am so glad we get such a strong example of what female saiyans could be like. This really fixes a lot of problems I had with DBZs saiyan race.

Do you think Brolly could take Goku as he is now? he seemed to have a better grip of his berseker form...

Yeah, and I love that not only are there finally female saiyans but that they are just like the male saiyans. Given dragon ball's track record with female characters, it was a bit worrying at first when universe 6's surviving Saiyan planet was revealed that all the women would turn out to be... domestic.

Is "true saiyan form" the name of the green saiyan form from the Broly movies? Is it actually supposed to be more "true" ? Either way, they don't quite go that direction with it in Super, or at least not yet. It's just sorta a berserk-oriented super saiyan variation that is really strong, but not necessarily any more "true" or not... I guess kinda hard to have any other "true" form after they've got Super Saiyan God.

As for Broly versus current-Goku... not a chance. IIRC in the first Broly movie he wasn't anything special as a fighter skill or technique-wise, he just had crazy amounts of power and energy, so all it took was the good guys all combining their energy into Goku and he beat Broly with a simple punch. Now Goku can go Super Saiyan God Blue Kaio-ken x20 - he should have way more energy output than what he had back then even after receiving his friends' energy.

It was achieved by Broli's deep resentment for Kakarot/Goku and his natural abundance of power which I'm sure you know. I just notice he used that term to describe Kale as well so I think it's legit. True Super Saiyans needed rivals to unlock their power. Strange that Vegeta didn't go this route tbh. perhaps he just wasn't strong enough for it.

Looking back at that movie I firstly realize it wasn't that great when you think about where things go now and secondly I completely agree with you. Goku seems levels above everyone except maybe Jiren. I LOVE that each transformation focuses an aspect of ability so Goku shifts through them in a fancy form of Janken (rock paper scissors) which is actually the best expression of any martial art. Clever.

The Ultra instinct is a nice turn. Specialized improvement of fighting sense as opposed to pure power. I like it almost as much as I did SSJ4. I imgine its sort of like a high functioning level of autism where thoughts don't get in the way. I just find anything reliant on a spirit bomb to be activated uttery ridiculous.

The whole (one) legendary super saiyan idea is all messed up now anyways. Heck, going by the prequel thingy Bardock is the legendary super saiyan now, and we all know how silly *that* is!

And yeah, I like Ultra Instinct, too. I like how characters with it change personalities entirely, too, as just another act-the-same-but-stronger transformation would be pretty pointless right now. It actually has some impact to Goku achieving it (though the background music helps on that a lot, too!)
