I'm not going to gush about it, but it's pretty engaging so far - a boy (Kaneke) has become half ghoul/half human, and now can no longer eat human food but at the same time can't bring himself to eat people. So he's discovered and been taken in by some ghouls who own a coffee shop (coffee is the only human food they can taste) and is becoming initiated into this underground world hidden in plain sight.

I'm a massive Ghibli fan, and I've seen a few movies by the other guy (Wolf Children, Summer Wars etc) but this has got some nice animation and a suitably bloody and different theme.

One channel stuck all of season 1 on over one night, and season 2 the next, so I've been watching one or two eps each evening.

You've triggered my somewhat not too subtle favorite manga debacle card. Here's the thing about Tokyo Ghoul.

The anime did a very good first season run. Infact it was spectacular. The Jason/kaneki episode where Jason lives up to his moniker is in my top five favorite anime episodes...ever. Kaneki experiences some of the most intense character developments in anime and that's saying ALOT considering how expansive anime can be. His foil is the upstanding detective and it's a very good conversation around human nature, losing it, preserving it, sacrificing it and regaining it. Not one character in the series doesn't fall somewhere on the scale of this debate. What is the value of ones humanity?

Well the manga really soars on this point and gets better and better. The anime though loses some of the plot in an attempt to produce a good TV experience. The drop in cohesion hits like a brick and so I tell everyone to try Seaon 1 and then pick ur way through season 2. Then Read the manga at the chapter equivalent of season 1's end. You will enjoy it a lot more as the pacing is far better and the story is actually worth following in comic format, it's that good.

Edit: I recommend the same approach for Claymore and Berserk, though Berserk second season is actually not terrible. The art shift grinds at me though so I have to follow the manga here aswell.

Too much stuff crammed into too little time.

I really like the pacing in Tokyo Ghoul. Without the commercial break each ep is pretty short too, and they just seem to end at a random point.

I got through a few last night, I really like Kanekis development and struggle, and the (so far) only hints at how strong he actually is. Shame to hear that season two isn't as good.

Viceland is showing Samurai Champloo all this week, I've heard some good things about that so started recording that. My hard drive is filling up!
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

So chucks got another kino's journey review, and its of my favourite episode!
http://www.sfdebris....osjourney05.php

Interesting part is the request was made by Jesu Otaku who was one of the first people to do video anime reviews that were really interesting (and used the actual anime clips so it wasn't a boring vlog). This would have been in the mid to late 2000s when anime was at its best i'd argue. You had a lot more novelty to the genre.

Small world, though i really do wish her content was still around the interwebs (blip tv kinda went by the drain)

ahhh the other one on my to watch list.

So on the to watch list
Gakkou GUrashi
Princess Principal
jojo part 4

Currently watching
saw the first episode of initial D. Was actualy interesting once they got to the driving bits. Ima have to watch more.

Also, makes my hyundai elantra feel super inadequate despite it being a stick shift. Maybe in 4-5 years ill be able to splurge on a car with more HP and either a RWD or AWD (subaru imprezas are nice and cheap to insure)

D'rek may enjoy this.

Posted Image.

And get it watched. JoJo part 4 can wait and I say that as someone you should never say Sono Chi no Sadame around because regardless of where I am, I'll JoJo loudly. It's ridiculously high tier. Like, if released this year, it'd make choosing a top pick so far SO DAMN EASY.

That said, we still have Magus Bride to come which looka very strong indeed. I'm wondering what else to watch next season. I'd not mind some thoughts; my main genres are action and comedy, but I need one SoL and something heavy too.
